I don't actually think anyone with common sense seriously thought he was the best ever pl cb or other claims i've heard.
Would have to play at a remarkably high level for atleast 5 years to be suggested as so.
like many have said there's a lot more asked from today's cbs. while being two of the best of all time would jt and rio be rated as highly in todays game?

probably think so, John Terry is one of the best passers of a football i've seen at chelsea for a defender. Maybe behind lebeouf only in terms of our pl cbs.
Left foot, right foot.
Most cite his best attribute to be reading of the game which is what a lot of cbs seem to struggle with currently. Maguire for example always seems to be out of whack, looking the wrong way or in the wrong direction.
Fantastic defender but certainly overrated by a minority - those who were proclaiming him as the best PL defender of all time etc.
Let's just let his career play out and see where he stands at the end of it.

players at the moment seem to be reliant on manager instruction entirely
maybe im completely wrong but i cant shake the idea most modern defenders are trained entirely to follow tactics not know what to do themselves
Uh yea cos Terry has never had a shiiiit game in his life
VVD is miles better. Imagine Terry playing in Liverpool’s high line

Arsenal fans on this board really are a breed
VVD has benefited from a solid midfield 3 to protect him and also a great front line to take the pressure off.
He is an athlete who will make the best work hard if exposed by the midfield. I do think he does drop off and let his partner make the first attempt/tackle/block more often, but he is still a very good CB and his passing/ability in the are are very good. But if you can’t stop ross barkley scoring, are you any good?
That’s true, VVD benefits from having a solid midfield to protect him. A moment of silence for JT who was left horribly exposed by jokers like Ballack, Essien and Makelele
