The reactionary nature of some football fans never ceases to amaze me. We lose 1-0 away at Man City and put in an okay performance and people lose their minds. Jesus Christ.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

That was NOT an ok performance. I was bored out of my mind. Other than 19 year old Saka...we had NO ONE who created ANYTHING. We have no players who can play the ball through the lines accurately. We pass sideways and backwards before we inevitably lose it.

That City team is a SHELL of the team from 2-3 seasons ago. We could and should have taken the game to them. It was probably the 1st unacceptable defeat under Arteta because we were just utter dog shhhyyytee. This team is calling out for the vision that Ozil has. He is being kept out for non footballing reasons. No one can convince me otherwise. Give him a solid base behind him in Cm of Partey and another and Ozil can still create chances. We are the 3rd worst team in the league when it comes to chance creation. Let that sink in. 3rd WORST in the league.

The problem is we can't pass quickly; we don't have anyone who can hold onto the ball in midfield and there is a lack of urgency - we pass backwards so much
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The problem is that our middle can’t dribble out, can’t beat a press or progress the ball, so they take the easy option of passing it backwards. A settled in Partey will help is curing this defect but he alone may not be enough.
We need a KDB- like player in Jan.

Yeah big overreaction. It was a pretty even game, and we competed well. But it’s clear we’re missing that extra bit of quality in attacking areas to Nick these tight games. We had decent chances, and could have had a pen so a 1-1 wouldn’t have been unfair to anyone.

My disappointment was we couldn’t break out of our more defensive structure especially late on, I think we were a bit too cautious we needed to ask City more questions late on

But it’s clear we are far off Man City levels still, so losing to Liverpool and city isn’t the end of the world for us now. But we really have to be looking to beat Leicester and Man U next if we want to be serious about top 4
----------------------------------------------------------------------
When are we going to take points of the likes of city and pool away. We are a big facking club. Teams like Leicester can score 5 at ethiad, spurs can smash 6 at OT.

When are we going to do something??

What are you on about? How was that an ok performance? We didn’t create a single chance in the 2nd half. What is ok about that?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Because we were playing the second best team in the league, who you could tell from early in the game had clearly upped their levels after a shakey start to the season. We had strong spells in the first half, a solid defensive shape for most of the game and some impressive passages of play.

I’m as aware as anyone how hard it is to stay level-headed and objective after your team loses, but if you can’t do it after a narrow loss away at Man City, when can you?

How is the football different to Emery?

----

For starters we aren't leaking goals. We aren't getting outplayed by the likes of Crystal Palace and Southampton at home. I think people forget how bad we were playing this time last year. I'm of an age were for the most part I've been lucky to see Arsenal play good football it may have not always been winning us stuff but it was entertaining. I mention the likes of Southampton and Palace because I remember witnessing those games at home and thinking I've never seen Arsenal play this badly consistently. We are in a better position now than then and if people don't think that then fair enough but I would suggest go back and watch those games.

Remember how arteta made us play against Man U when he first came? He as that in his locker and is not scared but he knows he doesn't have all the parts to play more attacking football right now hence the Jose tactics.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
That was one of the best halves of football I have seen. It was refreshing. However he has reverted to an emery like tactics

Teams of cloggers like Burnley and Sheffield United will create more chances against City this season. Yes we obviously need a Cazorla clone but the reason we created nothing was because of the mentality of the team. Arteta takes the blame big time tonight. Gave an extremely fragile City team too much respect

The only game you could say that about this season is Liverpool and really to be outplayed Annfield at the moment that is not a crime. Sheffield United sat 10 men behind the ball for most of the and said come and break us down which we did in the end. West ham had a decent spell in the game against us but they didn't dominate. We've done ok, of course we want more but you've got to be real and look at the games objectively. Its disappointing we lost today but when was the last time we went to that ground and didn't get blown away on another we take our chances and we get something out of the game

Yeah think we were definitely too over cautious today. We could have caused them more problems if we were a bit more positive. Think Arteta was bit too concerned with us not getting thrashed rather than winning the game. But we still had the chances to get 1 or 2 today even while we were being a bit negative.

If we beat Leicester and Man U next this result will be forgotten about. We’re not good enough to win the league so narrowly losing to City won’t matter if we can beat teams under Liverpool and city level. Let’s see what happens over next month or so

I expected this in the other thread. Although they didn't overrun us, I always expected Areta to setup defensively and nick a goal. If you concede however its up to the manager to change it. He did that against Sheff Utd. But didn't do that tonight. When Arteta changed to 4-2-3-1 both Saka and Willian became very effective as creative players.

Truth is Arteta is very cautious. I think he gets that from Moyes. Now its time for him to show what he learned from Wenger and Pep. We have Partey so lets see what he does next game.

We need to change formation.

Calm down guys, it's not the end of the world. We could be Man Utd, already 1-0 down after 2 minutes.

Leicester smashed City 5-2. Are they under ‘their level’ right now.

In the extremely unlikely event we win those games I won’t forget about tonight, I’ll look back and think ‘what if we actually performed against City’

There is no positive spin anyone can put on this match for me. The most disappointing performance since Olympiakos

No ones is happy with a defeat but just look where we were coming from. Arteta has been in the job for less than a year he's already won us a trophy. We are going up against the second best team in the country a place we haven't done well for a long time, we just need a bit more objectivity when analysing the performance. We want to dominate these type of games like we used too but that just ain't going to happen at the moment.

Leicester got three penalties in that game how often does that happen especially away to a big team?

posted on 17/10/20

The only "Urgency" in this team is one to pass back into their own half or stupidly across the goal area. City players didn't even have to scramble to get back. We took so long to move the ball up the pitch, they were jogging casually and still had time to take some deep breaths.

We're not going to make CL football playing this way, with Leno in goal. Because we're not going to be able to score anywhere near enough goals to make up for the one's we concede. We could get away with it with Emi but Leno can't play in this system. He's not a good enough footballer for one and he knows it, that's why he panics trying to play out. Either the system or the keeper has to go or we might as well kiss CL football goodbye now.

To get penalties you have to show attacking intent and have touches in the opposition box. Neither of which we did

We had chances that just weren't taken and a referee not awarding a nailed on penalty you can't really blame the manager for that. The second half could of been better but sometimes it doesn't go your way.
