The Invincibles, City's 100 points team and Mourinho's first Chelsea team are top 3 imo, all better than any of United's PL teams
----------------------------------------------------------------------
None of them are better than Utd’s 2007/08 side. Only potentially Mourinho’s first Chelsea side.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
LOL you weren't even the premier league team in 07/08, let alone ahead of teams like the invincibles.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
What on Earth are you babbling about?

It took the Eduardo injury and historic collapse for Arsenal to finish 4 points behind United, with Chelsea between. That Arsenal team would have walked the league otherwise, but was still nowhere near the invincibles.

That’s a ridiculous concept, if teams are fighting on three fronts it’s obvious players are going to be rested at certain stages in the season

That Arsenal team was awesome. My favourite outside of the Vieria led teams. But the fact that Eduardo’s injury derailed the side so badly is proof that dude never had the mettle to win the title. Utd won the league because they were the best side in the league and in Europe. The outlasted probsbly the strongest premier league season there has ever been in terms of overall consistency and overall performance. Look at those teams in that top four. Better than every side City walked all over in their title win. That Utd side was Fergies best, irrespective of what got them the title.

It could easily be argued that arsenals invincibles only won their title because Utd lost rio to a farcical drug ban and Chelsea were being managed by Ranieri. It’s easy to downplay any title win ffs. Utd won the a strong league and took the CL. I’m sorry, but they were a great side.

That was in August 2009, we were never good enough to win the title in 2009/2010 season. 2007/2008 was the one that got away from us.

They didn't peak at close to Arsenal's level. It's a fair argument about the strength of the league, but they're remembered as much for the prior and subsequent careers of their players as what they did that season.

They won by default, and nobody at all would remember them if Arsenal hadn't completely lost the plot.

getting it mixed up. Pretty sure we played United near the end of that 07/08 season and lost when we should have won, which would have given us the title.

Only 10 players?

You don't usually include the GK in formation titles

Won by default?! Have you heard yourself ffs Nobody was docked points, no asterisk appears at the side of that title win. They outlasted a ridiculously powerful division and win the CL title while having to fend off a stacked domestic league. Your assertion. That they won by default is completely ridiculous but you’re more than entitled to bask in that delusion if it makes you feel better about a title opportunity that still hurts me too mate.

Bringing it back to the match today, even though the performance by so many was utterly diabolical, we got a win against the toughest opposition in the group away from home. Its an important 3 points.

I thought Rapid Vienna played some good stuff at times, but it's hard to tell whether we made them look better than they were or if we grossly underestimated them.

Mate, if you only win a race against Usain Bolt because he tripped and fell on his face, you can't claim to be the fastest runner.

The 3 occasions where I think we had a great chance (and arguably should have) won the league were: 07/08, 10/11 and 15/16.

We were unfortunate in 07/08, completely crumbled after the LC final loss v Birmingham in 2011 and 15/16, I really thought we were gonna do it after Welbeck's 95th min winner against Leicester...

I do wonder, if we had a different manager in charge, whether we'd have at least two more league titles to our name. But it's totally hypothetical.

During 2007/2008 season we went into the game against Man United at Old Trafford 6 points behind them with 5 games to go, victory would have put us 3 points behind them with 4 games left. It was the Birmingham match in late February that season which caused us to lose all the momentum, we were top 5 points clear going into that game. Eduardo got injured very early on, we conceded that late penalty and it was 2 crucial points dropped, we fell away after that as we then drew our next 3 league games, lost to Chelsea, beat Bolton away dramatically, drew home to Liverpool and played them in the Champions league quarter final legs between that league game, then lost to Man United.

07/08 nah, we overachieved to keep in touch with such an incredible United team. 10/11 the way we crumbled after the Birmingham defeat was disgusting. I think that match was the end of Wenger at the top tbh. The season Leicester won it, yes obviously we would have done way better with a competent manager. Finishing 2nd to Leicester was the final straw for a lot of AKBs

Snooker49 I just checked and we would have gone level with United had we won that game, above them on goal difference I'm guessing. Agree that the Birmingham game was the turning point, but if we beat United the points swing wouldput us above Chelsea and United in the final table. You're memory is incredible btw I noticed that on the snooker thread.

We would have finished ahead of United if we won the game. Finish 2 points behind Chelsea and 4 behind United.
