I think the issue arises from the importance people give to religion.

It's great if it's kept personal but if it affects everyone then perhaps it isn't the greatest force for good.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

We are hard wired to be spiritual beings, it's always there. For some it is central to their lives, for others it' s a subject they dip in and out. For others it is meaningless.

I respect all views and everyone's perspective on religion. However, I will not openly mock them or ridicule any aspect of their belief system. Presence (however big or small) or absence of religion in a person makes them who they are.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I won't mock anyone for their beliefs but I think I do have the right to at least question talking snakes, Noah's Ark etc. I'd expect to be laughed at if I said I talked with a snake yesterday!
----------------------------------------------------------------------

This is where I despair at religion and to a degree take peoples views with a pinch of salt.

The original sources are not the way they appear today. The word snake wasn't used for example. Not only that but a description of a walking standing talking "thing" is also revealed and it's later we get the slithering and being on the belly etc, a punishment if you will.

But even without the mistranslations and adding to stories I always wonder how on one hand we can accept evolution from a tiny thing to where we are now yet laugh at other stuff.

There is a dangerous rhetoric in politics at the moment which is being used as a means to divide the populous

Brexit, immigrants are bad, Islam is evil, etc

The right wing agenda across the globe is taking shape. Governments are using the rhetoric to divide and rule....

Absolutely, fables created over 2000 years ago to the modern mind does seem hilarious and I also question many aspects of it.

How far do you and I take our hilarious interpretation is the key. Do we critique it with logic? Do we critique it with science? It may be implausible on both counts.

But to a believer it bears a profound meaning you and I will never get.

There is a saying in certain religions. The ones born into a religion are not true followers, it is those who seek to find the true meaning of God who growcloser and it is they who find deeper meanings behind scriptures, fables

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Have to disagree with you about the fables. Based on what I know anyway.

Islam is relatively younger than christianity and is going through some of what christianity went through.

What I mean is some of the most oldest sources don't tally with what we know of christianity today. Somewhere along the way major things were changed and to the detriment of the religion

In Islam we have shia and sunni rivalry which was one of the earliest, the focus was on changing scripture to suit. Over the years we have a lot more within sunni. Eg the whole barelwi and deobandi movement started during the british raaj years.

These new branches change things to suit their "belief". So currently you will see Muslim houses lit up with Christmas lights. This is called the mawlid. It's has no basis in Islam yet as argent's have intensified the barelwis have started to go ott with celebrations and "find" ways to prove its ok. This includes wordplay and changing certain things.

One of the big things, which I believe christianity did too, was to implant an image of God. So a man in white with a beard etc. Once you get that image then certain things become more unbelieveable, yet both the bible and christianity clearly say God isn't like man

I can't profess to be an an expert on theology but 2000 years was in reference to Christianity anecdotally.

Fables from scriptures to a non believer has little meaning. That is what I was trying to get at.

I'd never put bacon on a Muslim's house. That's bang out of order. What I would be happy doing though is questioning with them the idea that there's a supreme being watching over us. That is something I'll never get sorry. I'll defend the right of people to have those beliefs though.

I'm one of those people who would happily discuss things with folk.

But being honest the discussion these days tends to be attempted mockery, not saying you here.

I think often it's because folk know they will get a quick rise

That's fair enough. I'm not religious and I don't believe in any god. It'd take some pretty solid evidence for me to believe but if it was presented to me I'd be happy to change my opinion.

It's rather a nice thing to think there is someone out there looking out for us and that I could see the people I've lost but I just don't think that's the case.

That's not just Islam though, its true of all religions outside of the Abrahamic religions

Look through historic arts and you see followings looking up into the heavens. Coincidence?

I firmly believe the is an architect, creator which is part of an advanced group intellectually and technologically which created the building blocks of life from sub atomic level to multi cellular. It could be that this being its presence known to civilisations at particular points in their development.

Otherwise religion, especially the Abrahamic teachings is the best selling work of fiction known to mankind.

Funny thing is Muslims follow quran and sunnah

Boycotting goods is not from the sunnah.

So those boycotting Muslims are not being very Islamic

Also I understand a man was fined 1500 euros for insulting the tricolor.

Only in france

That's worse than going a niqabi 130 odd euros for wearing a niqab and then fining someone 150 euros for not wearing a mask

It sums up my view of religion.

People following the writings of people from ancient history often without questioning it.

Clever people from the past have minipulated the masses for centuries whilst growing rich on the procedes.

By terror and by minipulation religion has dominated peoples lives to such an extent that wars have taken place because of it.The ironic thing about most of these wars is that it's often people following the same deity that fight each other.

The French have got it right, the state should have no influence in brainwashing children especially into joining a religion.Leave that job down to the parents.

Doesn't necessarily rule out the possibility of a deity though.

In all honesty, I think the Simulation theory is probably the most convincing one I've heard as to how we got here, but it still doesn't explain what created the creators

A 'personal God' who cares what you eat, how you dress and who you feck though - that's all just ridiculously ott.
