Otherwise religion, especially the Abrahamic teachings is the best selling work of fiction known to mankind.
To me that hits the nail firmly on the head.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Love how you took that paragraph out of context though
🙄
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It sums up my view of religion.
People following the writings of people from ancient history often without questioning it.
Clever people from the past have minipulated the masses for centuries whilst growing rich on the procedes.
By terror and by minipulation religion has dominated peoples lives to such an extent that wars have taken place because of it.The ironic thing about most of these wars is that it's often people following the same deity that fight each other.
The French have got it right, the state should have no influence in brainwashing children especially into joining a religion.Leave that job down to the parents.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Change religion to brexit and you saw how easy it is to manipulate the masses, turn family against family etc
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Just a no on that terrible analogy.

Was earlier in the month, he defended France's secular values and said Islam was in crisis all over the world. Announced a bill to strengthen a law that officially separated church and state in France.
Also defended the right to blaspheme and backed satire such as the Charlie Hebdo cartoons.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I'd agree with most of that really. Think mocking ideas is OK.

Yes
It's hilarious to me as an atheist but if I were Christian it would be highly offensive.
Christianity has gone through many changes, from period Enlightenment onwards. Mockery of Jesus is often accepted. Depictions of Jesus in pictorial or inanimate form is also accepted.
However, in Islam the scriptures are unaltered, depictions of Mohammed in any form is forbidden. Generally they are tolerant but there is a far right element to the religion which highjacks the generally moderate following. Yes, if you scratch the surface and examine the true teachings and meanings they are archaic and irrelevant to modern life, the teachings are nothing more than fables of morality, guidance to mankind. It bears a spiritual significance to its followers. Its prophet is held is high esteem.
Once people, who feel they have right to mock, pictorially depict a religious figure with a bomb as a head gear it is being reasonable, it crosses the provocative line. The French feel they have a given right to rile Muslims and Islam, it does it institutionally, it has it overtly, it does it unapologetically.
Actions by right wing extremists masquerading as Muslims can't be condoned. Provocation by satirists and endorsements of such provocation by the state can be condoned.
Actions of a few cannot be used as means to bersmich the vast majority of the Islamic faith.

Law abiding, tax paying citizens with a right to practice their faith.
People of faith should not be provoked, ridiculed or mocked based on their religion.
The role of the state is to protect all its citizens and not marginalise and/or villify minorities. France is institutionally anti Muslim from the top through its many incendiary endorsements of satirical depictions of a figurehead Muslims hold in high esteem to the statues it's passing through parliament.
All citizens should strive to assimilate into the rules, customs, traditions of a country to an extent, the fact many don't is the reason for a lot of the divisions. The UK is no different in that respect.

Who is to say they aren't?
