I don't believe an apology was required but a correction to the language used to avoid stigmatising any group is surely so little to ask that it doesn't warrant any complaints.

The OP getting so upset about a minor issue like this is why it exists in the first place. The media put out these stories as they know they will get clicks and a reaction, like the wound up OP. If people like the OP just man the fack up and stop getting so wound up about these things then they wouldn't exist. Man up!

I think they just want to feel loved too
I think its just your old age that comes into if I'm totally honest. I will admit, coming through this generation where mental health and equality continues to be an ever pressing issue, there are times where I feel it is pedantic and that people use this "power" to their advantage in certain situations, that much I understand.
However, the message is clear and people know just how badly people are affected these days due to the influence of social media platforms and in fairness, the ability of people to speak out more about it. It's still not enough, but it is improving I feel. The term "man up" for me is one I was sceptical with at first in terms of how it relates to mental health, but then you think of women of all ages who look/read on social media to try and look a certain way or be a certain type of person because that's what brings attention.
I feel like the term "man up" is the same in principle. Asking a bloke of any age to be a certain type of way, when in theory there probably are many emotionally stressed men across the world who cannot "man up" because they are not that kind of person. Emotional men is something in the real world and always has been, telling somebody to "man up" isn't the solution either.
Should it have made the news? Probably not, maybe that's a bit extreme but I can see why it has been spoke about because the message needs to become clearer that these phrases need to be erased really.
Thank you for your interesting and articulate reply Average Fan. There is no way Richards had to mention mental health in this instance. You have to look at the context in which the term 'man up' was made before jumping to any conclusion. This manager I believe was just telling his keeper to improve he was using the quote man up to mean be stronger. Be more commanding. simple as that. Why people have to criticise is beyond me.
