I think the point was simply that things aren't always as straightforward as they seem and perhaps people should wait for the actual facts before making any judgement.

I don't know. If I had a wife and you asked her if she'd rather I slap her or have an affair with my brother's (which also don't have) wife, I'm pretty sure she'd rather be theoretically slapped in her imaginative face than me sleep with my hypothetical in law.
