I really don't understand how Root isn't making the T20 squad.

I see some big players, such as Stokes and Archer, are 'rested' from the ODI squad.

But maybe we should be grateful if we get any international cricket at all!

Root T20 form has been on the slide for a while. Remember watching him on big bash and he struggled big time because teams know his scoring areas and they also know he will rarely hit them for a 6. He doesn't have a get out shot when he is under the cosh.

In the past it was okay to have a player who could tick it along but players like Williamson, Babar, Kohli can up the ante which is something Root cannot do.

7 tests in Sri Lanka and India in 2021.

England against South Africa has always been an intriguing battle in tests. Cant understand why no test when we have test world cup as well?

England's intra-squad warm-up match will go ahead today. South Africa's has been cancelled due to covid issues.

Root top scores with 45* (26) in the T20 inta-squad game.

S Curran likewise hit 45*(18).

Olly Stone pick of the bowlers taking 3-12.

So Root did well in both warm-ups. Silverwood was asked if Root could be brought into the T20 squad and said:

“Never say never. Everybody that’s here is an option. We picked that squad and we’ll start there. If guys are here and doing well, you never know and it’s been great to see guys who are not in the squad coming out and saying, ‘We want to be in there.”
