We might not be talking about a huge package in isolation

which former united player now playing in serie A are we talking about here?

I really hope not. He’s a bit of a virus to any club that wants to build a future right now.

What a load of utter nonsense. We are not building sweet all, we look toothless one week, great the following week. If the likes of PSG will be at the front going for this guy, who are we to say no to Cristiano Ronaldo!!! It is high time we smell the coffee and know our place right now in the world of football

You wanted us to sign Bale, a vastly inferior player.

He also argued here why get rid of Lukaku. I am going to make a bold prediction here, I think Ronaldo is going to here well past Lukaku sell date

posted on 11/11/20

Not really the same, Lukaku (despite being a crap footballer) has plenty of years in the tank. But you’d think Bale was the 35 year old and Ronaldo 31, if you’d seen either of them play the last few years.

I don’t see this happening anyway. But I think you can actually build for the future even if you have a player like Ronaldo as your centre piece for a couple of years.

For argument’s sake, having Ronaldo as your striker with a view to Greenwood eventually replacing him is a process that can deal with the short and long term.

Depends what kind of package you’re talking about

Whatever people think about Pogba’s footballing value or suitability to the club, if he were made available this winter or next summer, there’d be a bidding war that’d bring in well over £50m.
----------------------
I don't think there would be any bidding war for Pogba.

Come on, I bet any passionate United fan would struggle not to be excited by this if it came true?!

I would go nuts if this happened (and we could get into OT to watch him again), what a player. Love Ronnie, get him back Ed and all is forgotten

it;s definitely a transfer where you ask yourself various questions - where would he play? what would it mean for martial/greenwood? would it cost us too much money? etc - and then eventually conclude "f@ck it, i don't care, let's just do it".

tiny chance that it happens of course, but we can dream.

It doesn’t seem likely at all. Purely on the basis that Ronaldo will want to play for a club that can challenge for the CL. We might not even be in it.

PSG seems the most likely if he leaves Juve. Especially as Mbappe will probably go to Madrid.

Madrid look miles away at the moment. Can they afford to spend hundreds of millions on top of Mbappe to get back to the top?

Mbappe is a huge talent but he’s not Ronaldo or Messi and will need help.

Such a United thing to do. Spend load of money an a player with no long term future.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
He's world-class and still doing it at 36.

A Zlatan mk 2, upgraded quite a bit.

Probably not, but Mbappe is their priority (in a position they badly lack a game changer) and he wants to go there, which is why he’s not extending his contract - he’ll have a year left this summer.

Fair point. Madrid don’t seem to have the money they used to though and even still you would think PSG will be asking for 100 million+.

My point I suppose is that even though they are Real Madrid will they still be the most attractive prospect to a player who can pick and choose his next club.

They probably will still be but if they have a stinker this season who knows.

Ramos, Marcelo, Benzema, Modric etc. are on their last legs and their business of summer 2019 looks poor (proud to say I called that at the time)

posted on 11/11/20

It’s the worst kept secret in football that he wants to join them. The club doesn’t need to be at the peak of its powers to attract the best talent, they’re the biggest club in the world. It’s not like Mbappe only has a few years left and needs to join a club that will be winning the CL now, he’s 21.

Darren my friend

I wanted Bale 3 years ago.

I wouldn’t cry if we brought Ronaldo back but do we really want an egotist demanding the ball every minute of the game? Is that really the cultural reset the club needs? ๐Ÿ˜‚

posted on 11/11/20

True but it seems like a very long way back for Madrid now.

The last time they looked this bad they went out and bought Ronaldo, Kaka, Benzema and Xabi Alonso in one summer.

To buy something like the equivalent of those 4 nowadays you’re probably spending £500 million. Can’t see them affording that any time soon.

posted on 11/11/20

You said about bringing him in this summer if we couldn’t get Sancho. I do get the point. I mentioned in a previous post that it could be done in a way that had an eye on the short and long term. Issue is this club isn’t capable of planning effectively.

Real Madrid are never a long way back from being in a position to compete at the very top. A few top players, some of their talented youngsters going up a level and maybe a new/top manager/coach and Real Madrid become a team to fear again.

They cannot do what they do in 2009 anymore, but over the course of a year or two they’re perfectly capable of building a world class side - especially when they get Mbappe.

posted on 11/11/20

Time well tell I guess but that’s loads of work to do there.

They’ve bought poorly in recent years.

posted on 11/11/20

I genuinely can’t remember wanting Bale this summer but either way, I doubt he’d be anywhere near as demanding of being THE man as Ronaldo would be. For Spurs he just seems happy to be there rather than the focal point ๐Ÿ™‚

posted on 11/11/20

Yeah because he’s shiiiiit and doesn’t care about football.

Tbh, having someone like Ronaldo come in for a couple of years and want to be the man may not be the worst thing. There’s a lack of leadership in that front line with Martial, Rashford and Greenwood.

It’s not gonna happen anyway. We’ll probably end up with someone like Mitrovic.

posted on 11/11/20

True ๐Ÿ˜‚

Tbh when I heard about the Ronaldo thing i instantly thought ‘what’s he trying to leverage by using our name?’

PSG to take the place of Neymar is my best bet.

posted on 11/11/20

Neymar will probably sign a new contract. Mbappe’s the one that will leave.

posted on 11/11/20

Sorry, I meant Mbappe. Walking and typing is not my forte. (Insert ‘he must always be walking then’ joke)

๐Ÿ˜‚

Neymar and Ronaldo in the same side would be box office. They might even finally win Ligue 1 ๐Ÿ˜‚
