At 11.00 we will fall silent

I don't wear a poppy due to my family heritage, and recently I've wondered if i sound like one of these "all lives matter" t1ts because i like the white poppy idea.

I stay silent and i respect other peoples right to show their respect for those who gave their lives, I feel strongly about it in regards to the poor souls who were sent as cannon fodder in world war I, and II.

I don't wear one, but it doesn't mean I can't be respectful of the dead and those who wish to honor them, for that reason i'll be silent at 11am.

We have a permanent Bronze memorial in work to all Herald employees who lost their lives in wars and someone lays a wreath at it every year
It’s a brilliant thing and a memory of when works were more than places to earn a wage

Can't be many places that do similar now

I do it every year and I tell my students the same thing: we mourn all the fallen of all the wars.

As an Italian emigree, my grandfather was interred in a POW camp in Canada during WWII. He avoided boarding the Arandora Star by a bawhair, although a lot of his friends were on it.

A kinder, less bitter man you could never hope to meet.

War is an ersehole.

sounds respectful.

unfortunately i think football (in scotland) and politics (UK) have taken what was once a solemn and dignified annual event and turned it into a stick to beat people with.

it's bogging, i have my thoughts on it as i say but i respect other peoples rights to theirs, i don't need to rant n rave about it.

Out of sheer intrigue, and please don't see this as any sort of criticism, but why do you choose not to wear a poppy?

I personally don't because I cannot stand how everything has to be done to show everybody else. You can donate and be respectful without basically having a gold star sticker on your chest.

They Shall Not Grow Old is a pretty stunning film and incredibly moving.

And people don't want to put on a mask to stop people dying of flu.

Most of these guys were just ordinary people thrown into war because a couple of cousins had a wee tiff.

Their lives (and deaths) should be respected regardless of whose side you're on.

The Spike Milligan books of his time in the war should be required reading.

The thing in our work was there before I started and was moved when we moved premises
The whole poppy thing is an rse buster tbh
Being “forced” to wear one(bbc newsreaders etc) is a bit like grinning clapping coonts in Korea

----------------------------------------------------------------------
If folk are forced to wear a poppy that is wrong.

Agreed.

BBC NI allow presenters to choose and some refuse, which is cool by me.

Poppy facists numbers are overstated, imo

Sadly the poppy has become for some more a symbol of Britishness than a memorial to the fallen
I get folk lime McLean(well known example) and folk of heritage other than mines to say ram that it’s paying for bullets or something akin to that
Bu one or don’t wear one or don’t. The dead won’t know they’re dead
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It is memory of those such as William McFadden who threw himself on grenades to save his mates...not to glorify war or empire, and not saying you imply that, Zach.

It's above and beyond dirty politics and is a freedom of choice.

That's what the British legion are about.

Good man.

It's not about virtue signalling.

I buy poppies and wear some, don't wear others as they tend to fly off motorbike jackets at 100mph

The British Legion offered help to my brother to be fair when he had his maddy
Never needed it but the offer was there
Not sure he made the right shout now lives with a mental burd on Anglesey who makes pots
He writes fookin awful poetry and puts it on Facebook
My oldest sends me them with lots of
We all find a way I suppose

Your bro was marine and served abroad in recent wars that Blair, Bush and co got us into, right mate?
