The nations league which was supposed to be friendlies has very slyly become the 3rd tournament in the International calendar. It's only going to get bigger with more teams going to the finals. Was always going to happen when you consider that AFCON and Copa America practically run every 2 years.
The Euros haven't been cancelled. They were postponed when we were still in the very early stages of the pandemic and rightfully so.
There is no logic at all in the actual friendlies. It's a complete joke but the competitive games going ahead makes sense to me. People in other walks of life can fly if required for their work so the same applies for footballers.
Leave it up to them, covid has no impact on 99.99999999999999999999999999999999999% of people worldwide especially healthy athletes.
I do agree with you, it seems ridiculous for many reasons why internationals that aren't tournaments are goin on however there's no sense in football at the best of times.
Airports are probably the safest place right now. Been at the airport twice in the last two weeks and there is no one.
Also its not just footballers, its all top sports people.

To add to that, people flying are probably Covid free as you need to produce a negative covid test before you fly for several countries. And all airports are taking your temperature and if you are over 37.5 you dont fly.

It’s not up to the footballers, it’s up to the authorities. And I’m not complaining that they are putting their lives at risk, as you said, 99.99% of them will probably be fine, but it’s the fact the the clubs suffer when these players come back with positive test results and can’t play or train with their team mates
Didnt Salah go to his brothers wedding or something like that
The nations league which was supposed to be friendlies has very slyly become the 3rd tournament in the International calendar.
=======
You what? The Nations League was never supposed to be friendlies. The whole point is to get rid of friendles
There is a very good argument against having international football AND Champions League/Europa at this time. They could have scheduled the domestic season to get it over and done with early (ie play league games during the 3 international breaks and midweek.) The knock-on effects could be massive if it drags on for too long though.
In the game Germany against Ukraine there were 4 Ukraine players tested positive. Yesterday there were reports that a few Ukraine players tested positive as well.
Absolute joke and shambles why this game took place.
Good article OP.
