Laurel and Hardy by a countrymile.
stan laurel was technically only half of a duo, but he did write (and even direct) some of their work, so I will claim laurel and hardy as >50% british, round that up to 100%, and declare them the greatest british comedy duo.
Hale And Pace get my vote, curly and Nige were priceless.

Apparently they have solved the mystery of the Marie Celeste, Hale and Pace were the cabaret.
Laurel & Hardy and the Two Ronnies.
Used to like watching Smith & Jones on cup final day

Came here to say this. I liked Fry and Laurie as well, though I guess if you can have Mayall and Edmondson you could have Rowan Atkinson and Tony Robinson?

Still wonder if we'll get to see what Maguire & Jones can serve up.
Bit niche but Ford Tienan and Greg Hemphill.
Never been a big Fry & Laurie fan but Stephen Fry was just superb as General Melchett in Blackadder goes forth
Harry Enfield and Paul Whitehouse?
The Two Ronnies
Morecambe and Wise
Smith and Jones
Mayall and Edmonson
Fry and Laurie
Vic and Bob
Cook and Moore
in that order.....
