Although he did audibly hint to Nathan Aké that he and United needed a 'player like him', last season.

Tbf, we did not play with 2 DMs or holding players yetserday, tactically at least. Fred, Matic and even Maguire were pushing up the pitch and WBA has zero intentions of playing through the middle.

Ole should have spotted this and removed Matic at half time for Beekers though (or someone else more dynamic and attack minded).

No schit.

Been banging the "get the basics right" drum for about 7 years.

But it's far deeper than just not playing defensive players in midfield.

A back 5 of competent defenders and keeper = a basic

A front line consisting of at least one goalscorer = a basic

Line up shape utilising competent players in their best position = a basic

Central spine = a basic

None of this things have been present, to varying degrees, since before SAF left.

You can’t play a team with AWB, Mata and Matic and expect quick, dynamic football.

Fred too, much as he gets about the pitch and recovers well, he gives the ball away a hell of a lot.

Telles movement was a breath of fresh air on the left, constantly making an option with the overlap.
