He just needs to learn when to set up to attack, like last night.
If we played with those tactics and intensity against the likes of WBA, we would be up towards the top. I am hoping this will all be part of the learning curve.

He certainly has a better attacking mentality than some of the dross that went before him, and he understand what Man Utd fans expect.
As with any good performance from us, I won't judge until after the following game or 2. If against Southampton we revert to type of struggling to create, being second to most 50/50s and generally being out battled then it's as we were.
When we do play well however, with the current crop of midfielders and attackers we have, we're far more exciting than we have been under the previous managers, no question about that.

As the OP has mentioned, Ole has provided plenty of entertaining, attacking games... the learning part I speak of is something that sounds simple, but it probably highly complex... When to let the players off the leash and when the risks are worth taking.
Plums like you would be the first in floods of tears if we set up to attack and lost to a WBA

I agree, as I said, it is something that is hopefully part of a learning curve and not a mental block.
We spent all last season struggling against such teams, sometimes with an attacking line up, sometimes with a more conservative one... With hit and miss results with both.
Ole has now had 2 years and 4 transfer windows, so this is the season he needs to get it right.
We had plenty of great wins under LVG and Jose. Even at times under Moyes - both home and away against Leverkusen for example.
Your memory is shot Mu52 if you think the great wins have solely been the domain of Ole. I was hardly LVG’s biggest fan but that period towards the end of his first season (City, Spurs and Liverpool) was better than anything we’ve seen under Ole.
Ole has the 4th or 5th best quality squad in the league. Last season Chelsea were behind but they have bought very well this year as they had the most money to spend given their ban.
So Ole has the 4th or maybe the 5th best squad yet our fans expect him to be in the top 2. Its just not fair I don't think.
Top 4 is a good season for us these days. Yes its painful to admit but we aren't the best team in the league anymore. People just can't admit it.

No one expects us to win the league but we do expect better than what we’re seeing. Our squad is good. A better manager would be expected to extract more from it and at least be in some sort of title race. I do rate the Spurs squad and yes, marginally better than ours but there’s no reason why a better manager wouldn’t be able to get us in the same position as them.
I doubt one honest United supporter can say we have the best manager available for the players we have. And if that is the case, why are we settling for someone who will make the fans settle for a par season and nothing higher than that?

He’s better manager than Ole, of that there is zero doubt. He is exactly what our players need - someone who brings an identity instead of going into each game like we are at the moment where any of three possible results wouldn’t be a shock.
We need a guy like him to get the very good players we have to play at a higher level and consistently. He worked magic at Spurs and was on track to deliver big trophies before the move to Wembley and the money dried up. Two things that won’t happen at United.

I just gave a few examples off the top of my head. I could name many more if you really want them. Ole has indeed been the manager during some entertaining games, of that there is no doubt. He’s also been in charge for some of the worst games of football ever seen at the club.
Same with Jose and LVG, but for some reason you forget those.
Who'd have guessed this would turn into another yawn fest repeating old ground, ad infinitum?

Won nothing. Poor record in big games and big cup games. Spurs fans also questioned his team selections like ours do with Ole.
Can't you see the hypocrisy?
Ole hasn't failed at any of his targets yet. Finishing 3rd was best we could do. This season has barely started.
If you look at the squad Ole inherited compared to what we have now, it is a much more balanced, attacking, fresh squad.
What I am getting from this is, Ole is learning on the job, but he knows what he wants. He is slowly getting us where we want to, but there will be highs and lows until we can become more consistent.
We win our game in hand, and we are only 4 points from the top. 1 point away from CL qualification in the 'group of death'. It's not all bad at all.
Ole reminds me of us under Rodgers. Both did some good things, had good moments, will likely leave the squad in better shape than when they arrived, but that's about it.
Both were never the managers to bring any sort of sustained success back due to their limitations.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Where is the hypocrisy? If you’re bringing Spurs fans into it, almost to a man they will agree that Poch was a great manager who would do wonders at United. They want nothing more than for Ole to stay as do much of the footballing world.
You obviously don’t know what a good job Poch did there - perhaps because he’s South American.... 🤔
For us to take this squad to the next level we need a better manager than Ole. Though to defend him you’ve surely mapped out the next 2/3 seasons with top 4 being the best you’ll hope for.
With the money we’ve spent and the players we have we should be at least competing for a title by now.
"He’s better manager than Ole, of that there is zero doubt."
Simplism.
Some managers are better at some jobs than others.
Poch was fantastic at Spurs but it was a very different job to the one at United, so to make this simplistic statement is just not good enough.
Allardyce could be regarded as a better manager than Ole based on his record.
Doesn't make him a better candidate for the job.
It's about opinions and making such definitive statements are not helpful.
There is no doubt OGS has produced more quality performances than the previous three managers did.
The trouble with Ole is that he keeps making the same mistakes with his set ups or player selections after good performances.

Poch was sacked because he couldn't deliver even a Carabao Cup Robb. They have turned to the anti christ of exciting football to try and win something.
So he can't be the answer either can he? You can't have it both ways.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
He’s better manager than Ole, of that there is zero doubt.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
No they weren't, and not many of them.
You said last night opinion was against me on Ole in.
You may find opinion against you on this.
You mentioned Leverkusen, two games. Three under LvG.
We had more than that in Ole's first twelve for the club.
A dozen or so when Bruno arrived.
PsG and others this season.
No my memory is not shot, you are trying to prove your narrative.
I've not said Ole is great, deserves to stay, was better than Jose in this article.
Just that we have seen less boring games, more exciting ones. Not enough, but it is true.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I just gave a few examples off the top of my head.

Ole has the 4th or 5th best quality squad in the league. Last season Chelsea were behind but they have bought very well this year as they had the most money to spend given their ban.
So Ole has the 4th or maybe the 5th best squad yet our fans expect him to be in the top 2. Its just not fair I don't think.
Top 4 is a good season for us these days. Yes its painful to admit but we aren't the best team in the league anymore. People just can't admit it.
