Poch was fantastic at Spurs but it was a very different job to the one at United, so to make this simplistic statement is just not good enough.

It’s not that different. He inherited a squad without an identity with some promising players and instilled a style of play and had them competing for titles and CL’s just a few years after fans there didn’t dare dream of getting higher than a top 4 place.

Ole has the 4th or 5th best quality squad in the league. Last season Chelsea were behind but they have bought very well this year as they had the most money to spend given their ban.
So Ole has the 4th or maybe the 5th best squad yet our fans expect him to be in the top 2. Its just not fair I don't think.
Top 4 is a good season for us these days. Yes its painful to admit but we aren't the best team in the league anymore. People just can't admit it.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Name one poster on these boards who ‘can’t admit’ that?
No one expects us to win the league but we do expect better than what we’re seeing. Our squad is good. A better manager would be expected to extract more from it and at least be in some sort of title race. I do rate the Spurs squad and yes, marginally better than ours but there’s no reason why a better manager wouldn’t be able to get us in the same position as them.
I doubt one honest United supporter can say we have the best manager available for the players we have. And if that is the case, why are we settling for someone who will make the fans settle for a par season and nothing higher than that?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Poch was sacked because he couldn't deliver even a Carabao Cup Robb. They have turned to the anti christ of exciting football to try and win something.
So he can't be the answer either can he? You can't have it both ways.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
He’s better manager than Ole, of that there is zero doubt. He is exactly what our players need - someone who brings an identity instead of going into each game like we are at the moment where any of three possible results wouldn’t be a shock.
We need a guy like him to get the very good players we have to play at a higher level and consistently. He worked magic at Spurs and was on track to deliver big trophies before the move to Wembley and the money dried up. Two things that won’t happen at United.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Won nothing. Poor record in big games and big cup games. Spurs fans also questioned his team selections like ours do with Ole.
Can't you see the hypocrisy?
Ole hasn't failed at any of his targets yet. Finishing 3rd was best we could do. This season has barely started.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Where is the hypocrisy? If you’re bringing Spurs fans into it, almost to a man they will agree that Poch was a great manager who would do wonders at United. They want nothing more than for Ole to stay as do much of the footballing world.
You obviously don’t know what a good job Poch did there - perhaps because he’s South American.... ๐ค
For us to take this squad to the next level we need a better manager than Ole. Though to defend him you’ve surely mapped out the next 2/3 seasons with top 4 being the best you’ll hope for.
With the money we’ve spent and the players we have we should be at least competing for a title by now.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Why should we when there's teams with better squads still?
Woodward n Judge are responsible for transfers. Ole wanted Haaland, Grealish n Sancho. He got none of them. Lets continue to blame the manager.
You've never liked Ole or wanted him. Poch isn't a top manager either. He's won nothing. The definition of being a top manager is being successful surely? He was sacked by Spurs. They didn't believe he was the man to deliver a trophy and you think he's the man for a much much bigger and tougher job? Do you not realise how stupid that sounds? He couldn't even win a league cup.
Great wins and games where we've played attacking football aren't the same thing. We've had great wins under all our managers bar Moyes. We've had some good performances under all our managers since Fergie, some obviously less so than others but not enough for me to say that any manager we've had since then have been attacking or brave.
Ole having been a player and knowing what United fans expect hasn't really counted for much and that's been the disappointing thing for me.
What I would say though is under Ole we have made significant improvements on the counter.
Last night United were entertaining, no doubt. Going forward they looked like they could score at anytime.
Cavani as a proper no 9, Martial in his proper position and Rashford albeit slightly unsuited to playing on the right is a fearsome front 3.
Van de Beek is the midfield brain United crave, whether Ole sees it like that is another question. Fernandes unreal again but anyone who thinks Fred is good enough long term is off their head. A busy player but so little quality. A third midfielder to sit and dictate from deep in the Carrick mould and you would be sorted.
A centre half that can transform the defence and a manager that knows what he's doing and you might be back in a couple of seasons.

Too inconsistent to get carried away by last night's performance, especially the first half. Second half mostly was dire. But must emphasise how good some of the footy was in the first half, it was mesmeric at times.
We just don't know how to expend effort over 90 mins. It's all or nothing in one half, knackered by the second. That is down to the manager, his tactics and game strategy and quite possibly squad fitness too.
Normally a good team would kick on but I just don't know what team will turn out in the next game. It's frustrating watching Utd.

๐
Our squad isn’t that bad at all. It’s certainly good enough to compete with the other sides.
Your appraisal of Pochettino is simple to say the least. So what, he was sacked. After making a CL final. With Spurs. Who didn’t have a squad as good as the others in the CL that season. Funny that they managed to do that yet you put an artificial barrier on the ambitions of United .
You do realise the manager you’re defending was sacked after not only relegating Cardiff but also with them in 17th in the championship.
Taking Spurs to 86 points in the league with a better goal difference than SAF ever got for us and then making a CL final is more impressive than any league cup.
You do realise the manager you’re defending was sacked after not only relegating Cardiff but also with them in 17th in the championship.

Well when you put it like that
It's about opinions and making such definitive statements are not helpful.

Some people on here think that their 'opinions' are undisputed facts. That they know the answers to Oles problems that even Ole doesn't.
Even when people consistently dispute them.
Most idiots on here thinks they are/would be a better football manager than Ole. Especially as the Man United manager, of which many who have never even seen them play.

Really?
Last season the Newcastle, Burnley, Bournemouth, Astana, West Ham etc (to name a few) games were as bad as anything under LVG and Jose
Poch isn't a top manager either. He's won nothing. The definition of being a top manager is being successful surely? He was sacked by Spurs. ---------------------------------------------------
This shouldn't be as much of a concern as some people make it.
Pochettino while he's not won any trophies as a manager, turned Spurs into a consistent top 4 side playing an aggressive style of football, culminating in them reaching a Champions League final. A great achievement and indicator of how good a manager he is regardless of how things ended for him there.
Would you be happy if he had won a League Cup or an FA Cup just so it meant he'd actually won something? Personally I wouldn't really care if he had won one of those competitions because they can be won or lost by the most minimal detail that it's not worth judging a manager too much in that respect, either way.
Fwiw though, I'm not actually that big a fan of his compared to some. If it came to hiring another manager he wouldn't be my first choice, he might not even be my second or third.
Lol. I know your opinion on him.
++
Which is exactly what Robb. Tell me what I think of him as a footballer, and as a person. And I will tell you if you are right.
BTW this is unfair to the OP trying to derail his thread.
It's kind of weird how Poch escapes all criticism, or any failings are ignored, by some.
The run he had Spurs on was truly awful and he couldn't get them out of it. The CL was an inept display yet again in a big game. He threw the cups every year. He started to give inflammatory interviews that bordered on simply odd. He has absolutely no charisma. I don't think he plays entertaining football at all. He's been out of work ages.

Equally, Klopp’s last season at Dortmund had them bottom of the table before he managed to claw them back up a bit higher in the league.
No one is saying Poch is perfect - but like Klopp with Dortmund perhaps that style of football pretty much took a lot out of the players and towards the end it just didn’t quite work as well as before.
The move to Wembley and drying up of funds surely played a big part. In 16/17 Spurs were flying and their home record was the best in Europe. Then they went to Wembley. I’m sure if Liverpool changed stadiums for a couple of seasons that would have affected some of their progress.
Ole and Pochettino are both sub standard managers. Can't believe some of the idiots want to sack Ole and sign Pochettino who is another loser. I am all for sacking Ole but at least replace him with someone of calibre

Who would you want?
As for the CL final Robbing, you remember it differently than some. They were arguably the better side in the final. More possession, more shots, more shots on target. That penalty in the first minute was a gut punch and Spurs played fairly well after that. It was hardly ‘inept.

‘Why should we when there are better squads still’
๐ Our squad isn’t that bad at all.

Yeah, but you don’t think it’s the managers job to motivate the players...
And the less said about your weird Rashford opinions the better..

Who'd have guessed this would turn into another yawn fest repeating old ground, ad infinitum?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Exactly. I do honestly believe we have seen more entertaining games under Ole than the previous three. That doesn't mean he is better or the right man for the job. It only means what it says. I've had a lot of downers but also some cracking games; Surely this is the case, I don't think I'm dreaming

You’re far more likely to be RDD with such weird opinions. As if you really believe it’s not the managers job to motivate/inspire the players ๐๐๐

There were times under LvG and Jose that I just didn't want to watch and would do something else if it seemed more interesting. I have yet to have that under Ole, though lock down clearly helps with that!

Lol. I know your opinion on him. You know your opinion on him. I’m sure most of this site does. If anyone doesn’t know they can take a trip to the article where you doubled down on such a shiiiite opinion and dug a hole so deep I could almost see you down in Oz.

They didn't believe he was the man to deliver a trophy and you think he's the man for a much much bigger and tougher job? Do you not realise how stupid that sounds? He couldn't even win a league cup.

As for the CL final Robbing, you remember it differently than some. They were arguably the better side in the final. More possession, more shots, more shots on target. That penalty in the first minute was a gut punch and Spurs played fairly well after that. It was hardly ‘inept.
