Luiz head injury

We received alot of criticism when Lloris played on when
he was concussed.
Very dangerous this needs to be looked at no point in gambling with players lives.

Yes agree. Arteta's statement after the game was odd. The medical team said Luiz was ok but then he wasn't OK? Very unsatisfactory explanation.

Yeah he should have come off, especially when his head started bleeding again. Think the idea of giving teams a free sub for concussion would help, less likely to have a manager make a player carry on

100% he should have come off. It was irresponsible & dangerous to let him carry on playing and I would hope that someone steps in and levees a fine or something because it just shouldn't happen.

Something to be careful about with the free sub stuff is teams milking it for a free 4th sub. Very hard to prove concussion, I'd imagine you'd see a sharp increase in the number of recorded concussions if they brought that in!

I persobally feel there should be an independent doctor for each match who will make the call.

Fractured skull, I hope he makes a full recovery

Horrible injury.

They should at the very least be the one that determines whether a player is fit to continue playing. \Given the ludicrous money already in football, the cost of one extra match day official (who happens to be a doctor!) can't be that much.

The easiest way to curb any dodgy substitutions would be to add a ruling that any player subbed for concussion - even precautionary - would automatically miss the next league match.

If he was ok, he wouldn't have come off at half time. Granted we don't know all the conversations that went on, but just seems silly to carry on at that point because it was a particularly nasty blow considering Jiminez has ended up with a fractured skull, tells you all you need to know.

Head trauma's need to be addressed more. I think maybe you can use an extra sub for an accidental head injury perhaps for example.

Luiz passed the concussion tests.

Why should Arteta be sanctioned? He’s not a doctor ffs. The medical team on the other hand have another notch under their never ending belt of mishaps at Arsenal on the other hand

Second time this has happened to Luiz now, within a couple of years.

Completely irresponsible...allowing Luiz to continue with a concussion.

Defies the concussion protocol put in place.

- The medical staff will assess the injured player. If there has been a confirmed or suspected period of loss of consciousness, the player MUST be removed from the field of play, and not be allowed to return.

Luiz never lost consciousness though. And he passed all the tests.

That doesn't mean that the test itself is correct though does it.

I don't think you can blame Arsenal if the test isn't good enough though.

Well I can because they are trained physios who should know better in that situation. Sometimes you have to go against what the protocol may say for the benefit of the player.

How can referees give penalties for minimal contact, but not see blood seeping through the head bandage on Luiz and not order him off for safety? with covid-19 even getting blood on the ball is a danger?
Equally Arteta had a duty of care to Luiz, must have been aware of the blood, with a direct replacement in Holding no question he should have gone off for safety. that's why they should be sanctioned?

As far as I know blood is not a transport agent for coronavirus.

However, I said immediately he needed to be subbed off, you simply cannot continue playing like that, especially as a CB that needs to head the ball, you cannot afford to have any cause for hesitation as a defender... Then we conceded two goals.

I was disappointed in Arteta for keeping him on the pitch, surely in instances like that he's gotta be looking out for the well being of his players?

That said, if he's told by his medical team then it's fine, maybe he just goes on good faith. Maybe that is naive.

Either way there needs to be things in place to avoid someone slipping through the cracks.

Although you started off pointing the finger at Arsenal's medical team or coaches, you eventually got to the real point. Football needs to address this and make definitive rule changes. And I just can't see any reason not to change things and to do it now.

Until football makes concussion substitutions mandatory, whether that means temporary subs like rugby's blood bin, or extra subs outside the usual 3, clubs will always do the bare minimal and quickest "concussion protocol" checks they can do to minimise the time the player is off the pitch. At the moment you are literally at a disadvantage to properly look after your player, as you are either down a player while you properly assess him, or you lose one of your 3 subs for someone who is potentially going to be fine to carry on after he clears his head.

It's FIFA who need their heads checked! ehehehe

Play stopped for 9 minutes. He was assessed in that time. Are you suggesting that any player who has a head injury should have a minimum time taken to asses them, maybe you think it should take 15 minutes.

They should just be brought off full stop and monitored for a long time after.

I'm not an expert so I don't know how long the effects of concussion can last, but I think it can hit you a fair bit later. Putting yourself at risk by heading the ball just isn't worth it.
