I don't know why this is tagged on the Arsenal board lol. He's not our player and hasn't been for nearly 3 years now.
Great night for him though, still a very handy player to have.
Samir, he has shown you what you are missing !
I don’t think Giroud would do a lot in this Arsenal team. Always thought he was a good player. Was disappointed we couldn’t sign him last year.
Harlequin,
Benefit of hindsight. At the time, the transfer made sense.
We needed to offload him to get Aubameyang and Lacazette had just signed for us 6 months earlier, so it's not as if we were going to get rid of the latter.
Unfortunately for us, things have gone pear shaped. Lacazette's been an extremely underwhelming signing for £45m and, despite the struggles with creativity generally, Aubameyang's form has fallen off a cliff too.
Obviously in retrospect, I'd have preferred to have signed Aubameyang instead, not signed Lacazette, and kept Giroud.
Life doesn't work that way though.
Just have to hope our decision-making and investments will be better in the future.
We’ve had to cope with losing the likes of Henry, Vieira, Cashley, Cesc, RVP, Alexis, etc
I don’t think a 30 odd year old Giroud is something to cry about
Can't think of a player we've ever had where my opinion after we signed him improved as much as Giroud. He's absolute quality.
To think last January many were whining about needing to sign a striker to get top 4 when we had Giroud there this whole time, just not getting picked ahead of Batshu-f***in-ayi.
Lampard's done a lot of things I approve of over the past 18 months, but his treatment of Giroud has been terrible. Don't you dare freeze him out for a THIRD time Frank! Don't even
Amazing that he doesn't always get the respect he deserves, and yet he's always acted like a pro and did his best when asked to play.
And is this on the Arsenal board because?
He's had an amazing career when you think he only started playing in Ligue 1 at 24. He's scored his France goals at a faster rate than Henry and only needs 8 more to overtake him.
I'm pretty sure he would have scored from our 33 crosses.

Considering Arteta’s come out and said their tactic is crosses into the box I think he would do all right. Better than Aubameyang or Lacazette certainly if that’s how they’re planning to attack

Eventually when one of 3 finally would hit him.
If you put 33 crosses in and only 3 hit a teammate it's difficult to score. That is why Auba also lacking goals currently. We can't cross the ball for shiiiit.
Same with shots on goal. We never do it. It makes sense when you are in the position to shoot. Are we?
He isnt and never was good enough as a first choice CF for a top 4 team. His 3 month goal drought cost us the title in 2016 (with a bit of help from refs). Most league goals in a league season was 16. Auba is a massive upgrade. And how long was Giroud with us until his first hattrick, which by the way was after the 3 month goal drought in 2016 and only scored AFTER it was impossible for us to win the league.
Rather have Giroud up front than Tammy anyday.
Healthy competitive environment created by Frank
He's a top pro,and is good for the team on and off the pitch according to Frank, what more can you ask?
Keep on learning Tammy.
Controversial but I don't think he has improved much if not at all. His game has remained the same.
Two factors which could explain his current form:
First, he gets better service. Chelsea are now packed with players that can create lots of chances like Havertz, Pulisic, Mount, Ziyech, etc.. So to all AFC fans who think we should have kept him. We are currently standing at the bottom of the table in chance created, so I very much he'd have been that prolific.
Secondly and like someone already mentioned, he is the super sub. Giroud can't play 90 minutes of football against decent and fresh CBs.
He needs to come on in the 60-70 minutes against tired legs and then he can win that half a yard to take his shot. Otherwise, he gets neutralised very easily.

Great to have on the subs bench as his heading ability always gives a plan B option if things are not going well
Droog, great to see your old post, you got it spot on.
How can we say Aubameyang was his replacement when Aubameyang been shifted out to the left wing 95% of the games he played.
It was Lacazatte who was chosen ahead of him and lets be honest that's looking like a laughable decision.
Giroud offers way more to the team even when he doesn't score and there's a reason why he's first choice for France while Lacazatte sits on his arris at home during the international break.

Yep, I wouldn't want him to be our 1st choice either (even if he was younger), but as a backup I can't think of a player I'd rather have as an option up front?
Hindsight is 20/20 but you did miss a trick allowing him to leave so easily. As BO$$ said Auba's been stunted on the wing most of the time so he'd still have been 2nd choice CF effectively.
