Is it a threat? Or is it just an existing part of their contracts that they probably assumed would never be an issue.
I'm pretty sure you're misinterpreting this. No one is being 'threatened', there are just clauses already in their contracts that state if we get relegated their wages are reduced by 25%.
There's probably an equivalent clause in the contracts of most premier league players, or at least there should be.
Manager has players to do much better than what he is doing now. It's his fault he can't get players perform better.
Yeah, this 'threatened' won't be something they've been told in the canteen during a staff meeting, or received via fax. It'll be a standard clause in their contracts.
Presume you've read this story in one of the tabloids?
So unlike them to try to blow something like this into a 'STORY!' when it really isn't.
It's contingency planning because of the drastic cut in income in the Championship.
Nothing to do with threatening the players. I'd imagine most clubs with players on big bucks have it.
The same clause probably also exists in Liverpool and Man City players contracts, this story is just sensationalised bullsh*t

I think the fact it’s even being discussed shows what an utter shambles your club presently is.
The board have allowed a steady but definite decline over a number of years. The recruitment has been largely garbage; Gabriel, Tierney, Auba if he gets his form back and Partey if he gets fit, potentially, are the only shining lights in an otherwise crap, overpriced and overpaid squad. Arteta is out of his depth - a rookie coach brought in to turn a round a huge club is risky enough, now that guy - who has no experience of this kind of thing - is having to work out how to stop a relegation dogfight ensuing. Wearing designer jumpers and watching Pep win trophies with two £50m players in every position doesn’t prepare you for the situation he’s in. And even the medical side of things; Martinez rushed back and injured immediately, Luiz playing on with a bad head injury, Partey being physically pushed back onto the pitch when clearly injured. Decision making at every level is weak.
I’ve watched a lot of Arsenal this season and they have played well in brief patches, but they are toothless going forward and disorganised at the back, with no natural leaders and an inexperienced manager. 8 PL defeats in the first 14 and an embarrassing home exit from the cup (got the feeling Pep went easy on his pal), means a club of that stature should be taking action. It’s unacceptably poor. But they are not acting like a big club and if I was an arsenal fan that would be my biggest concern - the acceptance of this malaise and the hope that things that are so obviously not working will somehow magically be ok.
Relegation is stupid talk, that’s not happening. But they are sleepwalking into midtable obscurity with no European profile, it makes it harder to get top players and top managers and the cycle of mediocrity just gets worse. Clubs like Spurs, Villa, Everton, have all fallen into this rut before.

Great isn’t it 😊
If you look at the clubs that have gone down, they usually have a 50% wage cut. Just giving a 25%, on top of the stadium repayments, would screw us unless we came right back up again.
So instead of £100,000 pw you get £75,000 pw
Would you even notice the difference
Bruce Rioch could be the answer

Serious discussions about relegation. A mere 2 and a bit years after losing Wenger and therefore becoming a super power in world football because Wenger was holding us back
Thanks wob
