I think this is one of the things that irked me most about our transfer activity in the Summer: I can accept that sometimes we might not get the targets we desire, or strengthen every position that needs reinforcement, but just filling the squad with cheap non-HG players (Mari, Soares, Runnarson) when there were perfectly good HG alternatives at a similar price (Adarabioyo, Ngakia, Ferguson, Butland as examples, the most expensive of whom went for less than £2m - not to mention possibly giving some academy products an opportunity) and then finding ourselves in a position where players have had to be omitted from the squad just shows a complete lack of foresight.

Not even close to Kepa. He’s the worst keeper in prem history. After Runnarsson.

Runarsson is not in PL history, never played a game.
Spain dropped de Gea for Kepa, United dropped de Gea for another calamity keeper in Henderson.

He looks terrible and nervy and I don't think he'll make it. But playing devlis advocate noone tonight Martinez would amount to anything after that 7-5 win against Reading...so let's hope he gets his head down and works on his weaknesses..of which there are many.

Sorry but I can't have that. I remember that game like it was yesterday and I remember rating him before and after. He was considered a huge talent. He was called up to his national side at 20 and favourable comparisons were being made between him and Szczesny in the youth set up. Martinez had pedigree but a bad game. One could see the talent. Can't compare Runarsson to that. I reserved my judgement but it's clear that he's not at our level.

I've always thought the demise started with Martinez leaving. The players were confident with him and it showed in our performances. No surprise we won the FA Cup with him as he commanded his area. I don't think the players have the same trust in Leno and it seems to have caused dressing room arguments. Let's see what happens in Jan transfer window. Only a week away and you never know what rabbit might be pulled out of a hat and a corner might be turned,.

Players "get better" by playing. Wenger didn't even have Emi as #2 never mind give him games, except in desperation. When Szczesny was struggling Wenger ignored Emi. When Ospina was struggling Wenger ignored Emi. Wenger signed the very much past it Cech instead of giving Emi a chance.

Emi didn't magically improve while sitting on his 'arris. He was always very capable. Just needed a manager like Emery and Arteta to show a bit of faith in him and let him play.


Also worth noting here that Wenger sold Szczesny for pittance, despite his very good form on loan. We sold Emi for lot more allowing us to invest more in the squad.


Emiliano Martinez is a very much not a good argument for Wenger, Wenger failed to recognise his quality, failed to trust him and failed to develop him.

Facking myopic dunce. What is not factual about the first two points?

How can you still not understand the mess Wenger & co left the club in when we've been living and breathing it on a daily basis for so long, over a decade of decline under his stewardship. Doesn't mean we don't appreciate what he did, what he did was incredible but that doesn't mean you have to lie to yourself or others about all his failings either.

How can you dare call anyone myopic when you don't see his failures even though they are still right in front of our eyes, so hypocritical.
