He must be about 48, I mean 33 now
Looks like the grass wasn't greener in Madrid...

It certainly wasn't.
I never rated Costa. Didn't have any tangible thing about him where you can say 'he's world class at that', was a street footballer. Which would be fine, inspirational even, if he wasn't a massive pr!ck. Morata was a mentality stunted baby but at least he didn't pretend to be anything else, dude dyed his hair red when he thought United were getting him ffs , Costa's wannabe hard man *b!tches out by text message* persona really annoyed me.
I got a bit of heat in 2014 for thinking he wasn't gunna be the guy to shake the ghost of Torres. Sort of proved wrong but ultimately look at him now.
unbelievably annoying fack...was glad to see the back of him

He was a world class goalscorer. He carried us through parts of our title winning seasons, especially the first half of the Conte season.
The text message thing was annoying but I blamed Conte and Costa equally for that. Yeah Costa wanted to leave but I don't imagine Conte tried hard to convince him to stay, when perhaps he should have.
What really irritated me about that was Costa positioning himself as a victim of Conte's mismanagement. Guy pushes for a move away from England for two years, is ready to cut in January 2017, but is very happy at Chelsea & only leaving cos of beef with Conte? F**k right off with that
I won't say he wasn't a good, productive signing cos that would be disingenuous, in fact on top of selling him for a 20mil+ profit up there with the best business we've ever done. I just didn't like him.
Yeah it was definitely cheeky of him to act as if he was being pushed out of the door against his will by Conte. In reality he was waiting at the door goading Conte into pushing him. But I dunno, I feel like a different character to Conte may have convinced Costa to stay. And we would have been way better off if he did because we have terrible luck with signing strikers and it still sucks that we lost the only striker we've had since Drogba that's been good enough to be Chelsea's main striker.
He wanted out, another manager might've convinced him to hold on one more season but it was a matter of time. We got a great deal even with his politics putting us in a corner. No regrets.
He wanted out regardless of the manager. He'd done everything he was going to do here which was win two titles

Odd comment since he's never won the CL.
Atletico were on fire after Costa joined them, he continued scoring for fun with them. He repaid them in full for their confidence in him. And as a Chelsea striker, he was the best thing for us since Drogba. Who else if not him?
The grass was certainly"green" at both clubs during his prime, in fact bright green. Not to forget his contribution to his national team..wasn't he in the running for "Golden Boot" in 2018?
Regardless how many felt about him , lets keep the record straight.
12 la liga goals in ~ 3 seasons since rejoining Atletico, 19 in all competitions in that time period. I'd say the grass was much greener at Chelsea honestly!
Return to Atletico was a flop, there's no other way of looking at it. Tons of injuries, dumb suspensions (for being a tool), and general lack of quality.
Atletico first time around & at Chelsea he was a success, I didn't like him myself but I'm not gunna deny that, since leaving us however? Not so much.
He fell apart after Hendo made him.sh1t himself.
The sharp drop off was weird though. I dunno what happened to him.

If he was at any other club in the prem I would have detested him with every fiber of my being
That said despite his goals he still annoyed me silly...

Not odd at all actually, you need to brush up on your CL knowledge. Costa already played in a CL Final with Atletico. And during his time at Chelsea we didn't get close to the Final whereas Atletico got to another CL Final which they so nearly won. So if he was thinking about winning the CL then he had every reason to want a return to Leti.
