You’re doing well, very well... considering the challenges you’ve faced and a manager who doesn’t quite have the required pedigree (ex class players rarely make the grade).
Whether you can cope with the long haul, in particular once the added inconvenience and game time of the EuroPaint trophy take effect is a different question.
I thought we were 2 points behind Liverpool.

Behind as in 20 to 19 titles? Quite clearly you're still behind the team that have been champions of the land more than any other club.
And you had an 18 to 7 head start too. Hahahahaha.

Really? Despite our well documented issues at CB, CM, RW and CF ?
I don't think that we will win the title in all honesty, but as it stands we are in the race. And when I consider that we are where we are despite the lack of preseason, our strikers not being in form and our defence being crap, I then think why not? Maybe we do have a decent chance. If Bailly can stay fit then he might strengthen the defence up a bit. Tuanzebe has looked decent in the bits we've seen. Traore might give us a boost when he comes in. Perhaps we will make another signing in Jan? It is going to be an interesting remainder of the season for sure.

indeed...last season mason had a goal every 130 minutes, this season 1 in 600; martial had a goal every 155 minutes last year, this year 1 in 700.
if we can get those two firing we can be a lot more confident, but it really isn't happening for either of them this season.
and odd how those claiming we've been lucky/got away with it etc can't acknowledge our messy pre-season/start to the season, which almost certainly cost us points vs palace at least.
We’re a bit like England fans singing “it’s coming home” during the last World Cup. A decent side going in the right direction, and certainly better than a lot of rivals give us credit for, but ultimately short in the first XI.
Being second right now is good and everything but it’s not even January and I won’t read too much into it just yet. I’m still thinking about third or fourth, which is what I’d say is about our level right now, and I think we’re more likely to finish fifth than second.
Why don't you log into you previous andrew RDD
Cole account and continue your assertion about wilder , Smith and Hasenhulter doing a better job than ole
One of the greatest side in the Prem era
Feck off. Not even in top 5
My aim for this season remains top 4 and a trophy. We are second now but due to the nature of the league we could be two bad results away from being anywhere as low as 7/8th. We are on a good run and long may it continue, but the same issues persist and I feel that we are still 2/3 quality signings away from being proper contenders (quality being the operative word).
Expectations are the same as at the start of the season... Top 4 and hopefully a trophy
If it ends up in a title challenge later in the season, I'm going to enjoy it, not stress about it

I dunno mate. Look at their points tally over the last 2.5 seasons.
So the feeling im getting from the responses so far is that we are right in our criticism and that the league simply isn't as competitive as we have previously thought.
It’s easy to over criticise when things aren’t going to plan, e.g. half time yesterday, losing a lead twice at average Leicester etc.
I think we have a right to expect some sort of consistency now, given the run we’re on and the fact Ole has had 2 years with most of these players. Yes we need patience to get to the finished product in another year or so but the fact we’re 2 off top having not been great shows we are a pretty decent side and should be competing.
I don’t think many fans truly believe we’ll be top in May but I’ll be happy if we continue pushing the top sides as we are doing, well into the spring.
The other sides have shown they’re no better than us, and Liverpool have shown they can be got at and haven’t been as strong as last season.
Will be interesting for sure, if we’re still in touch in March you never know!

Good post Jon
I'd be disappointed if we couldn't keep going at 2 points per game average. Probably won't be good enough for the title but for top 4 would be pretty much job done. Anything above that (turning a couple of defeats into wins for example) may make things interesting. It would be great going to Anfield though with four home wins in a row under our belts.

I guess some people find whatever they look for. It might be that you’ve been criticising the manager for months and are now looking for a new approach given that we are second at New Year.
It’s all a bit skewed as Liverpool are vastly underperforming, considering they have the best players in the world in at least 7 out of 11 positions and all our players are $hite, and they have the greatest manager in the planet and we have a PE teacher, for United to be just 2 points behind them makes you wonder how the German is still in full time employment

Personally, I dont think we will win a title under Ole, but I'm happy to admit we are doing better than I thought we would under him so far.
This thread is more about the opinion of United fans on here in general. Is it a weak league and the criticism is correct OR do we expect too much from Ole and the players.
