Who cares about actually doing things to help, like running a fooking competent government.
Don't see the issue it's just a nice gesture showing our appreciation for those who are doing a fantastic job under the current circumstances.

It was a nice gesture the first time.
But now it's been turned into an organised event and people just have to take it too far don't they?
There'll be fireworks as well of course, which will scare the dog.
It still is a nice gesture, it just seems like more of a personal issue in your case rather than an issue with clapping itself.

It's a pointless gesture.
it is a pointless gesture. Im sure they would appreciate it more by people sticking to the rules and not organising and attending illegal raves and parties, protesting against lockdowns and just generally staying indoors
This is a moan I can get behind.
I'm with Winston. It felt spontaneous the first couple of times, now it's a bit Clinton Cards. There'll be clap shaming next if you don't join in.
I've read a few posts on social media from actual NHS employees who say enough of the clapping, it's all very nice, but can we have something that'll actually improve our situation.
If no real dog in the fight, so if people choose to clap it doesn't bother me, if I was putting kids to bed then who knows what I would think.
I do however think that passive participation/protest is starting to become toxic. Pressing the like button on a Facebook post to "stop animal testing", "e petitions" etc just give people an outlet that assuages their grievance in some way, whilst allowing the status quo to continue without much disruption. I don't know what I'd prefer but "1 like = 1 prayer" stuff makes me want to vomit my spleen.

Funny story.
My wife's cousin works as a consultant.
Her husband was looking after the baby and she was at work.
Their neighbour had a pop, asking them why they weren't out clapping, earlier in the year.
You can imagine the response, although I think he was more polite than I would have been.
It's utterly pathetic. As if not clapping on your doorstep means you don't care.

Oh no wait.
Nothing has facking changed.
I remember during the first lockdown, about 50 odd people, including the police, converging on a bridge in London, clapping.
There was no social distancing whatsoever but at least they looked good!!!!!!!!!!!
During that first lockdown, which was stressful for everyone, it seemed to give people a feeling of shared purpose though.
They're just reeling out Lockdown's Greatest Hits to try and get that support and compliance back.

I'm very conscious not to virtue signal here, but it is probably what I'm about to do. My mate is a mental health nurse, who had a suicidal patient who at the start of lockdown had a 1 bedroom flat with just a bed and a microwave. He asked if I had a spare DVD player, he gave her his old TV and I gave him a DVD player and some DVDs. As selfish as it sounds, I subsequently felt better about myself, like I had done something tangible albeit I'm sure it's far less than what many on here do. But the clap stuff I just couldn't for whatever reason motivate myself to do it, despite it being one minute of my day.

Mate, you should be loud and proud about doing that.
I'd far rather you post up on social media saying that and finishing by directing people where they can donate unwanted items, in case they don't realise how valuable they can be, than you post up 'be kind'.
On that subject, feel free to share any people/organisations in need that are close to your heart on here. I'd very happily contribute.
