I wouldn't be surprised if Sheff Utd actually escape relegation

Wish footballers would cut out this spitting and gibbing out of water stuff when everyone else is going around in face masks

I hate to see us playing like a lower league side defending deep and trying to nick something on the break, we're better than that. For most of the game Dendoncker was facing his own goal, most of his passes seemed to go backwards but at least most of his went to a gold shirt. That's tactical, as is this maddeningly frustrating habit of not getting the ball forward from free kicks. Free kicks are no longer an advantage to us, unless they're on the edge of the box, in which case Neves puts them in the stand, they go backwards and mostly end in conceding possession in our own half.

What happened to that team that put three past Tottenham. Most of the players are still with us, same coach, same staff, different attitude. Our confidence and ambition have gone walkabout and it doesn't feel like the right messages are getting through to the players. One shot on target in the last two games, one against positives, teachers and sparkies tells its own story.

Hopefully Willian Jose will start against Palace and give us a boost and some different options.

Hard to judge him on tonight but he seemed to be OK doing the physical work could be a good hold up man

I should think Jose is just what we need, Sheffield U still playing out of their skins

a few on here want to have a look at the crap they've posted.
wolves have gone to one of the strongest clubs in the country, in their worst run for 4 years with a a defensive team set up to get a point - they get it and you're moaning !

We’ve conceded 8 in our last three league games so it was completely sensible to approach yesterday’s game with a clean sheet as a priority. We weren’t going to improve our league position by continuing the way we were

We have now brought in a striker as everyone wanted so we can now get back to the set up that got us to 7th in the last two seasons. Any move to a 4231 or similar formation can be put on the back burner until we bring in players suited to that set up

I fully agree that in the context of recent form and results an away point at Chelsea is a good result. I just dont like the way we played last night, or the mentality that has brought us to where we are. Its not just Wolves, I hate it when teams deliberately set out to suck the life out of a game. It felt like we were riding our luck for the entire game last night and when you have players with the talent of Traore, Neto, Podence, Neves, Semedo and good solid pros like Coady, Dendoncker, Rui & Boly in the side that shouldnt be the case. That header from that last corner, their guy won it got good contact it came off Jose who knew nothing about it and over the bar, that's luck and how thin the dividing line was between a hard fought point won with a defensive set up and defeat as a result of not coming to compete.

Im usually firmly in the happy clapper camp but its not just last night the last few games have really frustrated me. Throwing away leads and conceding late goals against poor sides, unnecessary tactical changes that clearly weren't working. There's been lots of poor decision making on and off the field. And in particular it worried me that it took the defeat to the Albion for the club to wake up to the fact that we needed a new striker. But we have and hopefully he'll help give us new momentum against Palace.

Agree with that OldGold.

I find it ironic that when a club like Brighton who are struggling for points come to Molineux and set up like that under Hughton, everyone moans about them. Then when we do it, its celebrated.

but old gold and tam, what do you think the outcome would have been if we'd have gone there and played open attacking football ?

The only options aren't park the bus or play open attacking football.

posted on 28/1/21

the best options should take account of who we're playing. due mainly to injuries we are in a freefall. we were playing a team that is man for man better than we are. we still had the best chance of the game with neto hitting the bar.
i think the team picked and tactics used were absolutely spot on and proved to be correct.

never seen Tam and Matt Hancock in the same room.

but playing devils advocate, we barely tried to compete, we didnt even press the ball which has been our signature under Nuno, we literally gave them freedom of the park untill on our 18 yard line

so what woud your approach have been tino ?

But your question is suggesting that I advocated playing open and attacking football, which I don't. So your question is completely redundant as they are not the only options.

Agree with most of what you say oldgold. But I didn’t think we were riding our luck the whole game, Patricio didn’t have a particularly busy evening. I thought we earned a point with a very good defensive display and as far as clear scoring chances went, we had just as many as Chelsea.

It’s not the type of performance I want to see from Wolves on a regular basis either but as our last three league games had a total of 13 goals then last night can’t be considered as a trend.

Hopefully Jose will prove to be a decent signing and if he is half as good as Jimenez he can make a big difference to how we play. I don’t want to see us getting 0-0 results regularly but I also don’t want to see us conceding 3 to poor teams like Brighton and Albion. There’s a clear middle ground we need to find

a halfway house, the defensive shape was fine it's served us well for the last few years, you know me I'm pragmatic. but id have had the midfield press the ball with more intensity to get the turnover ball. Neto,Podence and Adama must surely be the fastest trident in the prem, chelsea's defence isn't quick - strong and experienced but not quick, we never even tried to turn them and run in behind through passages of play and the only time we got at them Neto nearly produced the magic. Yes chelsea have a lot of talent its far from a walkover, but we beat them not long back we could have had more of a go is what i'm saying
