I checked it cos I'm a nerd, and you've had 15 lower league teams and 6 PL clubs in rounds 3, 4 and 5 in the last 7 years
----------------------------------------------------------------------
which is broadly what you would expect from a random draw though. in round 3 there are 19 PL opponents out of 63, so you have a 70% chance of not playing a PL team. round 4 probably a c. 50% chance of not playing a PL team.

amazing really, if it's that easy to do, that no one else has managed it in the last 140 odd years.

Just shows that you held onto Fergie for far too long!

we were much more tolerant of failure in the good old days.

You've drawn a lot more lower league teams than you would statistically expect, but if you agreed then what was your comment about me not checking it?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
well, the clue that you hadn't bothered to check was in your use of the word "probably".

and i can't be bothered to slice and dice all the data, but just in the last 3 years i can see that the 5th round - ie the round before the QFs - has featured bournemouth, swansea, bristol city and barnsley (this year); portsmouth, sheff weds, reading, norwich, and derby (last year); and qpr, derby, wimbledon, millwall, newport, bristol city, doncaster, swansea, and brentford (the year before).

so i'm not sure that your "we've had it easier than you would expect" claim is true.

still, keep up the digs at clubs outperforming you, if it makes you feel better.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I didn't need to check as it was highly likely to be the case. Haven't had any digs at your club at all, I made a statement that was true, you thought it was wrong and tried to be smart

Boris is obsessed with United. Probably used to support us.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Like you support my kids?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Eh?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I pay loads of tax in my job and Boris doesn't work. He's rubbing it in that he gets his kids, house and life paid for by taxes from people like me who work.

You don't work, you're in school.

i didn't say that i thought it was wrong, merely that you hadn't bothered to check, which you hadn't.

literally all you've now done is show that most cup runs involve meeting weaker teams in the earlier rounds, which isn't hugely interesting, because even the most stupid posters on here could figure that out.

you certainly haven't shown that our cup runs over the past 7 years have been easier than average, which you might want to do if you're going to sneer at fans being pleased by the club achieving something that no other club has managed in close to a century and a half - you know, with it being so easy and all.

I never claimed to check it which is why I said probably, but I was right so not sure what point you were even trying to make.

But yeah like you said round 3 roughly 70% chance of getting a lower league team
round 4 ~50%
round 3 lower than 50%, probably nearer to 30/40%

15 lower league opponents out of 21 = 71%

so you have faced a lot more lower league teams than you would expect.

Not at all. I'm just stubborn, so don't let things go when I'm right

I'd let it go, just congratulate United on achieving something else no-one has and move on

I like it, but my anti-monarchy soul is finding the title a bit hard to live with

Out of our last 32 games in the FA Cup we've played 17 games against PL opposition. I'd say that's pretty average in terms of what you'd expect in a random draw.
