That game was perfect for Mbappe.

Open space to run into and counter attack. It’s agaisnt the low block teams where he should be judged.

Messi and Ronaldo always seem to find a way even marked by 3 or 4 players.

Truth is it’s impossible to say if he will reach their level but I’d say so far he’s doing everything possible to do so, he’s an unbelievable talent.

Obviously the media want to label someone as being the heir to the footballing crown and so far he clearly seems to be the one. The big thing though is whether he will have that completion that Messi and Ronaldo thrived off, they made each other even better and without that they simply wouldn’t have reached the levels they did.

But I see no problem with how highly rated people are rating the lad, he’s incredible.

So the overreaction is that he is now being claimed as one of the top two or three players in the world?

We already all knew that.

barca are just awful so can't read too much in to this

Of all the current players he probably has most chance of reaching the levels of Messi and Ronaldo. That doesn't mean it's likely given they took their talents beyond what anyone could've imagine but it's no different to Mbappe at this stage.

Staying at PSG won't do though, you need to prove yourself consistently at the very best clubs and leagues.

He’s talented but not on Ronaldo or Messi’s level.

there's maybe 3 or 4 other players in history you can say this of, so when those two retire i think we're all going to have to lower our standards when judging the best players in the world.

It’s not just Mbappe, it’s football and fans/media in general now. If a player has a good game or a run of form all of a sudden they are being hyped up to the Max. Everything and everyone is so reactionary these days.

I should say I am talking generally there and not about Mbappe, I think he is a wonderful footballer.

2 from Haaland already tonight. He’s near Mbappe’s level imo.

I don't we'll ever see the likes of Messi or Ronaldo again. 2 men that have raised the bar to a level of greatness that nobody else has come close to in the last 15 years. Messi the natural genius vs a superhuman footballer with a drive that seems unparalleled.

Mbappe or Neymar are arguably the only 2 other players on the planet that can take those spots but they've got to dominate for another decade at least. Balon D'ors need to be won too.

I think Mbappe will be the one that takes the crown.

Neymar is the better player and would have been messing heir apparent if he'd stayed at barca.

Tbh I think neymar could have been something special if if hadn't been for Messi hold on Barca, or if reports are to be believed.

Sadly think the money etc will have/had a ronaldhino effect on neymar

I’d hope this is tongue in cheek but Neto looks the real deal.

He really is. He said on day one when he came to us he was going to the very top, at that point we had no idea who he was and thought 'that is a bold claim and outrageous confidence'.

Can see big offers coming in very very soon and wouldn't be surprised if he moves on this summer

You use interesting language in your OP. You might call it premature but when you start chucking around phrases like 'ridiculous' then you're as guilty as what you're making the article about.

The lad is 22, he's accomplished a startling amount at his age. Heck, at 22 Ronaldo hadn't hit his insane season he had for us and that probably would have been about the point a fairly decent amount of people were saying he should be sold, he's a one trick pony etc.

Why do people insist on this "not as good as' nonsense though? There will be plenty of old forum posts probably saying the same about Messi and Ronaldo when they were young.

It doesn't matter if he becomes 'as good' as them. What will matter is what he's achieved in about 12 years time and he's set to dominate for whatever team he plays at for years. He's an exceptional talent and it isn't inconceivable that by the time he hits his mid 30s that he does so with more than one world cup in his honours list and who knows how many league titles etc? He's already won something like 4, he's in the double figures for trophies.

Not too sure on where Messi was, scoring wise, by 22 but he's certainly outscored where Ronaldo was and I'd think by a considerable amount. Scored in a world Cup final as a teenager, been his league's top scorer at least twice, his individual honours list is eye watering.

The bar of what makes a legendary player, an icon, best in the world etc isn't "Messi and Ronaldo". We may not see two individuals hit the heights these two hit in our lifetime but that doesn't detract from the incredible players we will see in the coming decades and unless something goes seriously wrong then yes, Mbappe will be one of those players.

Been like that for a while.

Have a good run of about 6 to 7 games, and you're automatically world-class

In about 15 years, we'll all be hearing about player X being more talented than Ronaldo and Messi.
