liverpool's midfield under klopp, was all about pressing and supplying the ball quickly after winning it, to the front 3

thiago doesnt really fit that description at all imo

His contribution does seem to revolve around slowing the team down and giving the ball away, one of which resulted in an Everton goal.
Give him time, he will fit in eventually. He’s got the pace for it, that’s for sure.

Does he fit any less than wijnaldum doing exactly the same thing.

Or jones tripping over the ball the rare time he gets going.

Our strength of fast breaks rarely if ever involved cms.

Its strsight to the forwatds or over the top at salah.

72% possession is pointless when you crab left and right and keep giving it to cbs.

You could count onnone hand the amount of times any of the 3 carried the ball and looked for something to happen.

Everton were really good. They even pressed shaqiri when he came on but stood right off thiago and wijnaldum as they knew they would just take it and crab it on.

When there no point even closing you down you have to know you are bad.

Btw we are not heavy metal when mane abd firmino cant be bothered. Heavyvmetal might have applied 3 years ago.

I think he'd be fine in a midfield with Wijnaldum and Henderson as it would have better balance but with him and Jones who are both similar when they receive the ball, it reduces the energy and pace of movement into the attack. When both Henderson and Fabinho are playing in defence/injured, we don't really have any other issues.

Any other options*

I dreaded you signing him. Now I am disappointed if he doesn't start. That can be damning.

When, nigh on, all opposition fas were baying for Solskjaer to get a Moyesey-style contract, I was convinced the manager was done.

Feels similar with Thiago.

Appears the contract-thirsty crowds were wrong/premature.

I just hope I am not on that same path

He’s been disappointing I can’t lie but I’ll properly judge him when he’s got a proper defence behind him and hopefully Henderson and Fabinho in midfield.

CM is a really important area this summer with Gini leaving. Henderson is quite injury prone himself. Keita is made of glass and Milner is now 35. Ox is useless.

I’d be looking to recruit two players in that department this summer.

Even though it was only a couple of games, he looked brilliant at the start of the season when we actually had our midfield.

He doesnt fit particularly well with Jones and Wij.

He seemed to fit in well when we had a fit defence & playing with Hendo and Fab in the middle

Strange we invested in central midfield when we are already crowded with options there. That money might have been better spent on a Lovren replacement. Easy in hindsight to say after the injuries, but even if VVD, Gomez and Matip were fit for the majority, we were still short at centre back.

We signed Thiago to release Fabinho as the fourth choice centre back. Both Fabinho and Klopp have spoke about Fabinho playing centre back. There was no way we were gonna sign another midfielder without doing this.

Killed two birds with one stone. Unfortunately the first three choices got put out for the season. Unprecedented I'd imagine, especially at the stage they happened. Think VVD played five games. Gomez seven and Matip ten. Crazy.

I am not impressed at all but daying thst i think he has lost all confidence along with most of his team mates.

When he first playerd versus chelsea and everton he was zipping those balls forward. Now he seems to have gone in his shell and is just aying sidewarda and backwards.

But his talking from day one had been awful. Remeber the pen he gave away versus chelsea. That was a thing to come. The prem is fast and hard and he at 30 os really struggling.

That pen against Chelsea was never a pen to be fair.

And he will have acclimatised to the Prem/England.

He'll definitely turn a corner, unfortunately.

Don't buy this he needs a proper midfield excuse. It was like the United fans who used to say Pogba needs x y and z next to him blah blah.

We just need to accept that he has been a flop. He is a senior player and has been a liability. Needs to be dropped.

posted on 21/2/21

I just don't think he has adapted to the speed and physicality of the league just yet.

We can see by his reckless tackles that he is just half a yard off the pace of the PL at the moment, I think once he can get to that level he will thrive (and once the injured players returned).

He's not the only player to struggle coming from the Bundesliga. Think of the likes of Werner and Havertz this season and even previously the likes of Can, Firmino and now even Thiago and Kabak will take time to adjust to this level.

Well he looked good for the very brief period that he had a proper midfield around him, so it might well be the case. The lack of momentum and confidence in the team at the moment will not be helping him. He does need to cut out the silly fouls though.

posted on 21/2/21

I'm quite certain Klopp had other plans for our system and that Fabinho, Henderson and Thiago 8s and will be our best midfield.

He's a quality player, we all know this, and in a new league so I'm not going to label him a flop after 14 not even full games when he's just arrived in a new league, had covid and come back from a bad injury because I think that would be silly.

Feel like the whole point of him was to offer something different and now Liverpool fans are complaining that he's not like their other midfielders
