Jeez, not another one of our legends.
Last 12 months have been tragic for our greatest team.

Very sad news

brain cancer-facking hell-that nearly killed me last year-nasty stuff
good luck Peter

Still often sing '....90 miles an hour, 90 miles an hour...' to myself.

As well as having had the privilege to see him play at his peak, I remember when he came back between 83-85 and was a hell of an influence on the younger element.

Peter is ,was and always be a world class legend.

Very upsetting to hear - what an absolute diamond

This is all over Facebook but nowhere else, not saying it isn't true but you'd think it would be being reported by a more credible source.

Sadly it’s true and also Mick Bates is very ill with cancer as well, very sad news all round,
Always thought Lash was underrated outside Leeds, could pass, dribble, shoot and scored 15-20 goals a season would have been worth a fortune today,

Will never forget his 1975 first time shot into goal v/s Bayern in the Euro final which was ruled out by that awful ref.

ADRITK

Didn't know about Mick Bates - this just gets worse and worse - because of the others he was totally underrated.

Remember you didn't get anywhere near the 70's first team unless you were class.

More awful news.

Peter Lorimer and Mick Bates were both, I believe, much underrated. On the international stage, Lorimer didn't have the opportunities to show the world his many talents – he was know for having the hardest shot in football but those who saw him play knew he had all-round skills that few other players had.
Similarly Mick Bates talents would have been much more high profile if he'd been with any other club. At Leeds he couldn't find a permanent first team place because of the immense amount of talent he was competing with. But Leeds was his team and once on the field, he was ever-reliable and was never outshone by his teammates.
I wish both of these great men – and their families – the very best at this difficult time.

One of if not the most corrupt officials of all time robbing us of a deserved European Cup.

Sounds really bad but I shall be praying you get well soon Peter and Mick too.

We were literally robbed of that cup final, Clarke was brought down in the penalty area and that too was ignored. Can't blame the fans for being angry that night.
Still Peter Lorimer another Leeds GREAT LEGEND from Don Revies's era, and good luck to him, and his family, not easy at all for all of them.

I was there.... and very angry. Especially as I also went to the Cup Winners Cup final in Thessaloniki in Greece against AC Milan in 1973 , and they screwed us there as well ☹️. I know they say Leeds and the team such as Lorimer, Bremner etc didn’t win as much as they should have...we’ll they would have if the officials had done their f ‘ing job right!

So sad to be losing these truely great players who played with amazing skill given the state of the pitches and leather balls they had then.

Best Wishes to one of the heroes of my misspent youth

He was my hero as a kid growing up. Really sad, It looks like another of that fabulous era is slowly leaving us. Such a shame that none of them have been able to get to see us back in the premier league in the flesh. It’s going to be emotional when we all get back in, some songs to be sung

Awful news. My thoughts are with Peter and his family. The famous Revie team is disappearing bit by bit. It seems the last 12 months, especially, have been particularly harsh.

Thanks for that link. Thunderboots
A great servant to Leeds with 526 app and 168 goals, one a 107 mph penalty!.

Very sorry to hear the news with yet again one of our all time greats having a rough time in health.. Very best wishes to him and his family at this time.

"Peter Lorimer! Silence here in Barcelona they're absolutely stunned by that goal"

posted on 26/2/21

Was in the Gelderd vs Scotland!..

They should have taken the hint and not gone to the World Cup!..

My favorite as a teenager, and I've always backed him even when people around here were ripping him apart!..

I can only send him best wishes, its a hard time for him and his family but I hope they stay strong and stand by him the best they can!..

Funny seeing that link and thinking how often people here say they hate red, said a few times we've played in it, strange world isn't it?..

I am very sad for the families of Mick Bates and Peter Lormer, and for the family of Leeds United. Big Jack, Bite-yer-legs, and Trevor Cherry left us in 2020, Peter and Mick may well be soon to join them, big Gordon McQueen not doing well either. Not long before this current crew will restore us to the place these great men brought us to. Go n-eiri an bothar leat, boys, may the road rise to meet you.

I was always Peter Lorimer when playing footy as a kid.
Saw him briefly in hospitality a few years ago, but didn't want to interrupt him at the bar, so left him to his conversation.
Sad to hear about his illness - the same took my little sister at the age of 36 some years ago, so resonates a lot.
This last 14 months has already devastated my list of lifelong heroes. Now another seems likely lost.

Lorimer broke his leg twice in such a short time, when he was just a young player at Leeds, cant remember whether it was his left or right? I feared his career might never get off the ground but thankfully the broken legs never impaired his shooting power!
He also enjoyed a bet at northern racecourses, saw him quite a few times at places like Ripon and York, stood at the bar tearing up his losing ticket, just like me!
