Bit before my time as well but my Dads favourite player ever. Think he entertained a lot of people during his days (on and off the pitch)
RIP Frank
Great Player and Character, one of my favourite Players.
RIP Frank
Yes so sad, one of the last true characters of the game.
Should have had far more England caps than he did.
Great flair player, lived life to the full.
Was lucky to see him many times in seventies in the wonderful Bloomfield team.
Great finisher and very much the ladies man!!
RIP Frankie Wortho.!
One of the Leicester greats and many happy memories of him in the entertaining Bloomfield era.
His warm up routine alone was worth the 20p entrance fee.
Goodbye, goodbye, Frankie Wortho! RIP
RIP
Remember seeing him in the bookies with his full football kit on.
Possibly at half time, while playing.
Frank was a one off. I remember when he was asked who his most difficult opponent had been. He replied 'My ex-wife.' Didn't he also quit English football to play in the US because he was an Elvis fan?

Brilliant!
Never saw Frank play but saw him in the tunnel one time at Filbo as he was waiting to go out at half time and do something with Birch. He had some rather spectacular shoes on.
Rest in peace Frank.
Also too young to have seen him play, but my Dad raves about him.
RIP Frank.
RIP Frank, watched him many times down at Filbert St. A member of the great “Bloomfield “ team of the 70s.
In an age where superlatives are the order of the day, Frank Worthington was truly one of that number. Part of the exuberant Bloomfield team of the 70s along with Keith Weller, Jon Ssmmels et al. Privileged to have seen him play many times. Ranked alongside Banks, Gibson. RIP Frank.
Saw him at Ayresome Park ages ago, he was wearing white so might of been Bolton
Also more recently ,well not that recently, give an after dinner speech at the Oval , for the SAL league
All good stuff
Amazing player from a time where flamboyance was lauded not pilloried. George Best, Rodney Marsh, Stan Bowles, Charlie George, Frankie Wortho - birds of a feather from the 70s.
My favourite Frankie Wortho story was actually from after he finished playing and had a brief spell in management.
He had recently taken over as boss of Tranmere Rovers and was asked by a journalist how his management style would shape the side, to which he responded "We might not win many games, but everyone of my players will be able to flick the ball up and catch it on the back of their neck".
Met him in the corporate at Elland Road, lovely man, quite happy to chat and pose for photos RIP Frank you'll always be remembered as a legend
Saw Frank at a Black Tie do he was after dinner speaker at. He was very funny, We had booked a corporate table of 10. At the end he came up to our table and thanked us for being the table that laughed the loudest at his jokes and a waitress came over with a tray of 10 pints of lager for us.
Top guy and legend. RIP Frank.
One gag (or maybe it was true) is that when appointed manager at Tranmere they were comfortable mid table, but under him they got involved in a relegation scrap. Although they nearly got relegated he boasted that by the end of the season every player in the squad could balance a ball on the top of their head.
He was a skilfull player, like Maddison a delight to watch. However he was a maverick- he didn't warm up with the other players but stood on his own doing fancy ball tricks! He will be missed by his other clubs and by the whole football world. RIP.
My memories of Worthington are both happy and sad.
I never got to see him play live as I was just too young, but I’ve heard the stories and seen the videos. He must have been an absolute joy to watch.
Then as a former player, we’d often see Frank at the service station on the way down to Wembley and he’d just join in and be one of us. Loved posing for pics and even joined in when we were chanting his name.
Then the sad side. I lived in Yorkshire for a while and I’d often see him in the bookies near Halifax. He looked a shall of his former self and just went about un-noticed as a regular punter that spent too much time gambling. I didn’t want to disturb him to chat about the “good old days”, it didn’t feel right. I stand to be corrected but I think he was a Huddersfield fan.
RIP Franky Wortho - the true definition of an enigma, but a definite Leicester legend.

From Sam Allardyce’s throw I believe.
Once he had that ball under control it was difficult to get it off him.
R.I.P. Wortho 😢 😠😢
Before my time, but I can see how much he was loved from the reactions of others. He certainly comes across as a character from a different era. Would such a character make it in these days of professionalism and athleticism? Maybe not; at least not in the same way. But on the same lines, maybe football is lesser for it.

You should of stopped after your third word....
What sad news,
Like many here I was lucky to see him play
How many over head kick goals did he have
Disallowed for leaning into the defender?
