OK. It's lunch. And the W Indies have shown this morning that they have no intention of trying to win, scoring at less than two runs an over. Bowl them out SL and do cricket fans a favour.
As I called it. Killed the game. It is that kind of cricket that makes the short form cricket the saviour of the the game while the wrinkly "purists" sit in their wheelchairs with their incontinence bags plumbed in muttering about how Boycott batted for 3 days and saved the test.
I think 375 or whatever it was is too much to realistically chase in the 4th innings. I don’t blame them for batting for the draw - even great teams need to do this sometimes.
I agree that Tests can be boring when the pitch is too batsman friendly, but Test cricket imo can be really good at times because of the momentum swings, and a team desperately trying to bat out the last session with only a few wickets remaining can be epic (ie. Anderson & Panesar vs Aus in 2009).
Also it’s a shame to see how Sri Lanka have fallen as a team.
From the likes of Muralitharan, Sangakarra, Da Silva, Vaas, Jayasuria, Jayawardene etc. to the bunch of no names they have now.
I vividly remember early 90's when Lankas were minnows and did not possess a single world class player apart from DeSilva but under inspired leadership of Ranatunga, they caused several upsets and eventually became world champions.
