These awards are usually won by the popular, fashionable players. Mason Mount is becoming a media darling because he was so unfairly treated at first, mainly for the clamour to get Grealish into the national team. But he is such a good player. It's good that he has a strong personality and has coped well with the undeserved criticism.
Shows what putting faith in your young and talented players. Wonder why tuchel dosent do it with the other really good youngsters you have Abraham and Gilmore?
I’ve been banging the drum for two seasons now just how good Mason is. We all know what a good engine he has, his ability to play in numerous positions. Now we are starting to see goals added.
This lad will go on to be a very important player for us. Well done Mason you can tell just how hard your working on the training pitch.
I'll be honest, I didn't see Mount being this good while Lampard was in charge. I thought he sat around the Maddison level but he's definitely pushed on. You've got one heck of a player there.

Looking to be a very good player and is 5 years from when he will start to peak.
Adds a bit of something different, I like him.

I think he's a great player and has real quality, not just working off raw potential and the "youngster" status like many other players do.
He has what is takes to become a real No.8 and I think that's where he best operates.

I like him. Not sure which his best position is yet though. He presses well enough and does enough without the ball to play in 3, but then you arguably take some of his better qualities away.
If Southgate could find a way to get Mount, Foden and Grealish in the team with a fluidity that meant we remained solid, we would have a nice team to watch. Unfortunately I don't think that is possible when you consider Sterling and probably Rashford will be starters.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I’d love a side like this to Atleast experiment
— rice ——Henderson—
Foden—mount—-grealish
————Kane————-
But doubt we will ever see if. Would lose a bit of pace but think we’d be so creative

Yeah doesn’t seem to be resting on his laurels. It’s why most rated him so highly before he started scoring more frequently. Great player already
I think you need to have 2 of Sancho, Sterling or Rashford in your team in the wide areas to give you speed for transitions and for penetrating runs when in possession, so it's hard to see all of Foden, Grealish and Mount all playing.
I think the only way you'd ever get all 3 in the team is if Rashford was the No.9, but why would you ever do that when he isn't as good as required there and you've got Kane, plus others like Calvert-Lewin who are better there. We certainly have great options in attack though now.
Yeah I agree. However I believe sterling and rashford are going through a tough time atm. And would like to see how the other team would do. Spain for example never had blistering pace. Man City don’t even really atm. Just very very creative.
You can see Spain's limitations as a team now though that they don't have that pace, but they also don't have a prime Busquests, Xavi or Iniesta in that midfield role anymore. Still have quality players, but not to that level.
Unfortunately, as much as I rate Rice, Henderson, Mount, Grealish, Foden etc, they are also not Xavi or Iniesta esque either.
Man City still have a fair bit of pace in the team with Jesus and Sterling. But a lot of it comes down to intelligence of runs into the box which is what I think Foden offers above both Mount and Grealish, that's why he'd be in my team in a 4-3-3 personally.
Yeah like I say it’s not ideal I’d just like to see it tried. Escpailly against teams that drop deep and don’t leave space in behind for runners.

It's been a real breakout year for him. He seems to have a little bit of everything for a modern midfielder - works hard, can pick a pass, can beat a man and can finish. Think it was the Poland game I was watching, whilst I wouldn't describe Mount as quick he has pretty good acceleration - he can get away from defenders really well.
I think he was slightly unfairly dismissed as Lampard's favourite last year and whilst there has been more hype around CHO, Pulisic, Havertz and probably even Abraham; right now Mount is looking the pick of the bunch.
You've got a player there and he'll probably be around for a decade or more.
Nick, I think that a false perception has been created about Mason Mount which many are now struggling to shake off. For a long while when Frank, brought him back with him from Derby, introduced him into our 1st team and was playing him (even when his form dipped which happens to all young players) and all the jokes started about him being Mason's dad, which Frank himself even joked about.
Whereas the truth was (which is only being fully appreciated now that an experienced manager like Tuchel can also see that he is essential to the team) that Frank has to be given credit for seeing that there was a hell of a player in there that was worth persevering with and one with a lot of the same traits that made Frank such a great player. i.e. The pursuit of excellence and a great work ethic and the firm belief that lots of practise, determination and sheer hard work can be the difference between being just a good player and a genuinely great player.
If Messi had scored that goal last night it'd be hailed as something special...which it was, Mason is getting better week on week... absolute shoe in for us and England

Was obvious he was just a good player. The sort of player a lot of managers might not necessarily built a team around, but be name 1 or 2 on the team sheet.
Whatevs, great to see him getting proper recognition now without the Lampard "distraction"
He only got in the team because he's Lampard's son etc
