Still time to catch up on that though
I really find the whole Royal thing weird. I'm not in the slightest bit interested in their births, deaths, marriages or divorce. I've never met any of them, nor are they people in the public eye with a body of work I can have an opinion on. They're as important to me as a family I don't know down the road. I find it so weird how the public cling to them like it's of any real personal importance to them.
A good example of how absurd this is - my Auntie back in 1997 went into London to lay flowers down for Diana instead of attending the funeral of a family friend's son, a school friend of mine, who had died 2 weeks earlier aged 18 in a car crash. That for me beggars belief.
I just don't get it. Now it'll be all over the news about Philip and quite frankly I don't care. It's for the family to mourn and the family only.

Just because you don’t care, doesn’t mean everyone else has to follow your lead. I’m no huge royalist by all means, but I understand it’s part of British culture and gives us an identity. What is wrong with that? Just seems so many people are hell bent on bringing down anything British and with an identity. America mourned when JFK got shot. It’s part of their culture. I just don’t get why you have such a problem with it. Simply turn the TV off when flicking through and don’t watch the news. As for your Aunty, that’s way OTT. I really don’t think the vast majority of British people would choose to lay flowers over going to a family funeral ffs. But, at the same time, I see no issue with British people being proud of our history and culture

As for Phillip. Yeah, sad when anyone passes, but come on the guy was rude, obnoxious, a racist, a chauvinist, lacked any sort of tact, and basically enjoyed a life of untold privilege and luxury for what ? following someone around for god knows how many years.
No doubt the media, particularly the BBC, will fawn and gush over him for the next few weeks. I am sure I saw the woman who broke the news this morning actually pretending to get emotional !

Yep, always said the same, hundred of thousands lobbing 50 quid flowers at a car hurtling down the motorway but never going to see their own parents graves a mile away.
I could live without a monarchy because I’m not a royalist, but I have no issue with British people being proud of the royals. Don’t see why others are bothered by it. ----------------------------------------------------------------------
I didn't say anything about people having to follow my lead. If everyone else is allowed to put 'RIP ' then I'm certainly allowed to say why I don't feel anything. It's just opinions. I'm not criticising it. I'm just curious as to how that happens in human behaviour where someone who has had no discernible effect on your life can trigger such an outpouring of emotion. I remember watching the people wailing outside Buckingham Palace on TV after Diana died and whilst I can understand a level of emotion to a certain degree, the floods of tears these people were in didn't match the relationship they had with her, if any at all. It reminds me of the kind of hysteria whipped up at evangelical churches where a pastor or priest will 'cure' someone on stage. It's more about being swept up by an occasion than raw unadulterated grief which is a far more solitary experience.

Told British students in China they would get slit eyes

Asked the indigenous people of Australia if they still chucked spears.

They do.
