I think the dynamic will be different next season, as I think we will look to invest in the summer to allow a more progressive style of play.

If we have a poor summer though and continue being dull, I think there will be restlessness amongst some of the supporters. I have been at Molineux plenty of times when there have been boos at half time, so whether you think it is a minority or not; it is likely to happen as people get frustrated. I think it might have happened tonight had fans been in the stadium.

Don't think there is any doubt that fans would have been booing this season given the awful displays.

Also if we are dishing up this football next season after a positive summer then Nuno will be out of a job, Fosun will not sit back idly watching rubbish like that.

You only need to read the comments at half time on social media to see what fans thought. The majority were not happy.

Yeah but they are not the real fans Tam blah blah blah

Difficult to see what Nuno can do differently at the moment. Fact is that when we play a more expansive style and commit bodies forward, we get beat. Every. Single. Time.

We don’t have any top class defenders that can achieve clean sheets without packing out our penalty area, and making it difficult for the opposition to break us down.

We achieved results in October and November playing the exact same way as we’ve played recently, so it’s got nothing to do with our injury’s to key strikers. Nuno is damned if he does or damned if he doesn’t, our squad is really weak in all departments and needs huge investment to make top eight.

So (without an injection of £150m) for me we’ve got two stark choices, more of the same and mid table, or easy on the eye and relegation.

Can’t wait to get back inside the grounds again. As oldgold says the vast majority there are supportive of the team and are savvy enough to understand the situation we are in. There’ll be great enthusiasm when we next get a full house at Molineux and I think as much as anything that will be to be with thousands that love football rather than the depressing moan fests we see online of which the match threads on here are an extreme example. Nuno has said all along that he and the players miss the fans. I can assure him the fans miss the fans too

Not a difficult day for our defence yesterday but I thought they all played well and showed again they are more suited to the 343 set up. Semedo the pick I think and him and Ait Nouri are much better as wing backs than full backs. Going forward we were as tepid as you would expect without Neves, Neto and Raul. No surprise that it was Traore who provided the match winning moment. Pleased for Jose to get the goal

best to stay clear of matchday threads

I thought Sheffield United put us under real pressure, and but for some good saves from Rui and last ditch blocks from the defenders, they could have scored 3 or 4.

Out of interest, can you give an example of a match this season where we haven’t been tepid and cautious even with Neves, Neto and Raul?

I agree that Sheffield United could have scored 2 or 3 last night. In fact they probably should have scored in the moment before we countered and scored our goal.

The fact they didn't shows why they are where they are.

Sheffield have little quality in attack and although they got into some good positions I never thought they were likely to score. I don’t think they would have scored 3 or 4 if the game had carried on to next week.

There have been plenty of games I’ve enjoyed this season and where we have been far from tepid in attack. The home and away games against Arsenal, home to Palace, away to Southampton, home to Liverpool are games that come to mind

So four at the back in one of those, against ten then nine men in another. Palace home was four at the back as well.

Just don't understand why people can't be honest. We may have won the last two games but we were absolutely awful in both against two truly dreadful sides. Man for man we are infinitely better than both sides but a neutral with no idea of the league table would have thought we were the ones in the relegation spots both times.

posted on 18/4/21

I think most of our performers since last seasons restart have lacked the intensity of the previous 2½ seasons but since the injury to Raul I think we became even more cautious. Since José joined I think there's been an improvement, the last couple of months haven't been quite as dire as that November to January period.

No coincidence either that the most insipid of the performances brought our worst run of results.

posted on 18/4/21

We can argue all we want but ultimately Nuno has also criticised our lack of cutting edge and wants to change it.

posted on 18/4/21

I'm not sure about infinitely better man for man cinci, you take out Jimenez, Neto, Neves and Jonny and it evens things up a fair bit. Boly v Fulham too.
