I dislike Liverpool more than I do City also. By a fair margin too I'd admit. I have way more respect for them and their achievements though despite hating them to my very inner core.

PSG n City are the worst thing to happen to football in the last 20 years although VAR ain't too far behind.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

This sanctimony is so phoney. There is nothing morally superior about United or Liverpool compared to City. Money is the only morality in football and Utd and Liverpool had more of it than anyone for decades. There was no realistic way for a club like City to compete without wealthy owners. No way to do it "the right way" when the former "top 4" piggybacking off CL money and the prestige of the CL pepertuated themselves in the top 4 and able to attract all the top players to themselves. I was brainwashed by Wenger's phoney moralizing about "financial doping" from City and co and used to spout this crap about clubs "doing it the right way", but I've come to realize it's just a bunch of butthurt big clubs with systemic privileges bitter that smaller clubs have crashed their party. Imagine perpetuating yourself around the top of English football for decades acquiring unassailable privileges over smaller clubs and thinking it's something you somehow deserve. I personally find that warped.

People have this total idealistic way of how a club should go about it’s business to achieve success and respect.
Sorry, you have to break a few eggs to make an omelette.
The school of SAF teaches us, ‘Adapt or Die’..
I’m not gonna be spending my time moaning about the good fortune that landed on Chelsea’s and Man City’s lap.
It is what it is...
at the end of the day, it’s 11 v 11. But many seemed defeated before a ball has been kicked.
Just turn up on the day and fight.

Tribalism is a funny one, seeing all the posts about the end of the quadruple just looked like a bunch of fans who are scared of something. Did I miss something becasue I hadn't really been aware of City fans going on about winning the quadruple, just stuff in the media which we all know should never be taken seriously. City were very fortuate to get their new owners in terms of the wealth it's brought in and I'm sure they won't be the last, people just need to let it go and deal with it.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Your last sentence is spot on.
If there hadn't been issues over the development of Goodison Park , our owners would have been running Everton.
If City did "win the lottery " it was very much like 5 numbers and the bonus ball

shinj with a few truth bombs on a sunday morning, good stuff.

never quite understood why we as united fans should be self-righteous because our money comes from having an official tractor sponsor rather than from our owners, don't really see why the sources of funds is important, only the uses of them. and boy is it boring when every debate about city just becomes a tirade of "look how much you've spent/go spend some more etc etc etc"

as stringer says, you either get on and compete - as we did vs chelsea in the 2000s, as we did vs city in the early 2010s, and as we have failed to do since then - or you don't, but whining about city's wealth won't get us anywhere.

and i assume that fans of other clubs whining about it would be delighted for united to win the PL this season - because it's a victory for a "proper" club - just as they'd have been delighted for us in 2018, or 2012, or when we twice finished 2nd to chelsea, or even losing out to blackburn.

Tribal support for a football club is a natural haven for hypocrisy. We're not immune to it and I think it's healthy to point that out from time to time.

I don't think our owners (particularly Louis Edwards) have been saints. That said, I don't believe our club at any point in its history has ever been elevated way beyond its 'natural' ceiling by massive external investment far beyond the capacities of what it could organically generate based on its footballing endeavours and the size of the community that supported it.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
But why are United so well supported worldwide? Up until the start of the 90s they couldn't hold a candle to the likes of Liverpool in terms of honours, yet all my life (born 79) they've always been a pretty big deal. Was it something to do with the air disaster, or players like Charlton, Law and Best in the 60s? I've never really been able to fathom why a club that didn't really make a dent in the worldwide footballing landscape compared to many others had so many supporters in places like China and Thailand.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
United's marketing is top notch tbh.

I wouldn't say it's ethical to convince people in developing countries that buying United merch is preferable to having safe drinking water but marketing has never been ethical.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Biggest crowds in the country while in the second division in the 70s was definitely down to the marketing prowess of the PLC in the 1990s.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Odd comment, City alawys had the biggest crowds on their forays into the lower divisions.

United boast about getting 60,000 against Sunderland in Div.2 hardly a mention of the 21,000 there against Charlton in the same season.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Here are the average attendances for the 1973-4 season.

You can prove anything with facts.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
So you averaged 8,000 empty seats per game.

Poor for a club that had won the European Cup just a few years previously

people posting about city oil money might be acting sanctimonious but this article by OP also reeks of sanctimony.

Can’t imagine anyone makes millions without some kind of corruption.

Not saying they’re all “people traffickers” or whatever other unsubstantiated claims are made against City’s owners, but they’re all part of the same rat-race.

Haha I almost wrote ‘touché’, but then I read my article again.

Can you elaborate on where I have acted “morally superior” to others?

If by thinking something different is being morally superior, then sign me up to church of sanctimony.

I don’t think I’m morally better than any of the people who criticise City for spending money, I just think they’re a bit short-sighted, hypocritical and lack self-awareness.

Morality, I believe, is a different plain.

I’m pointing out that forms of ‘possibly corrupt’ business practices are hardly comparable to the practices that take place in the UAE. Unless I misunderstood you of course?

----------------------------------------------------------------------

When we were in second tier and you were in the midst of a decade that the Wikipedia entry on your club describes as 'The Glory Years' we were averaging 12k more supporters per match and I suspect fewer empty seats (though I don't know for sure what the capacity of Maine Road was in the 70s).

None of this matters of course. The most honest fans who seem to love City on a deeper level, like Melton, embrace the history and the memories of being a middle-sized historic club with all the ups and downs associated with that. The fact that United has been so exceptionally well supported and therefore wealthy and therefore enjoyed sustained success that City is for the first time encountering is the reason we have so many spoilt tw@ts in our part of the forum. You'll soon enough have plenty of those kinds of followers, with no real sense of your club's rich history, no sense of a shared experience informed by hurt as well as joy, and I think you'll find you fit in well with them.
