As long as there are teams who cannot get relegated from what will be the highest paying competition, then there is nothing to understand.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Why do people keep saying relegated? I can't help but think it's because people on TV are using that word.
Never in my life have I heard of people getting relegated from a cup competition. When has anyone said "ah United have been relegated from the champions league?"
They either get knocked out or fail to qualify. Very interesting that this word is being repeated over and over again, I can't help but think it highlights just how easy it is to manipulate people's language and affect what they say.
It's something I'd expect my Mrs to come out with.
"aw, were United relegated from the champions league? Better luck next year love".
Instead of not getting relegated, why aren't people saying they don't have to qualify? Far more consistent with language I've seen and heard people actually use.
It also makes me wonder if people think of this as a complete domestic league replacement, hence the no relegation thing, is that how people see it?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It's slightly different in the context its being used though. It's more about the fact there is no jeopardy involved. Those 15 teams will always be in it. Maybe relegation isn't the word but the principal remains.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yeah I get that completely. I just think people are using it because they are just repeating what people on TV have said. I thought it was strange when Susanna Reid asked this morning if it's a problem that they can't be relegated.
Without any outside influence I just can't imagine fans using that term, it would be qualification.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I think the bigger league format may also play a part in that language being used.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
But its still referring to annual qualification. I might be way off the mark, I just don't recall seeing it as a term until after I'd heard it on TV. Then it seems to start creeping in and now just seems commonplace.
It's more amusing than anything, just seems a weird phrase to use.

This is just the firs draft of the proposed league. There will be months of negotiations before a ball is kicked, if it goes through at all. Lots of clauses in the original proposal will change during negotiations.
UEFA and PL are trying to use fans as pawns. They know big six have them bend over the barrel, so they are trying to use fan outrage to get leveraged negotiations. Imo it’s best to wait until they hash out the final agreement before going all ballistic
----------------------------------------------------------------------
This has struck me as incredibly transparent but the masses seem to either be oblivious or ignore it.
Uefa booting clubs out of the current year's competition based on possibly playing in a different competition in future stinks of the kid who goes home with the ball because he isn't getting his own way.
They are the school bully who is trying to throw their weight around.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yes, and I don’t think UEFA has the legal right to do it. Non of the parties involved gives a rats ars about fans. FIFA , UEFA are coming to the negotiation table with a distinct disadvantage. So they are trying to rile up fans to get some leverage.
Sky and other broadcasters are also in it for money, they are sitting comfortably on a pile of cash, they don’t want upset the applecart, so they are trying their best to kill it. No doubt they will be the first in line to get TV rights if this goes through, then most of the media folks that are suicidal right now will wax lyrics about how ESL is the bestest and biggest competition in the whole wide world.
We are set to lose no matter the outcome, so it’s best to keep the outrage bottled up until they come up with something concrete imo

I had to just shake my head at the childish way sky acted yesterday. They didn't bother getting on to covering the game I paid my subscription to watch for a while. Spent ages just ranting about this and pretending it's because they care about fans. If it sbecause its breaking news, you have a freaking news channel dedicated to that. I wanted to watch the post match coverage.
I can imagine some people in suits had told them in no uncertain terms that they had to condemn this or lose their job and old G Nev got right on it.
Found it incredibly amateur and disappointing from him, even just the way he went about talking about it. I was more against it at that point and actually found it so stupid, petty and dishonest that they were losing me more and more every minute.
I don't appreciate dishonesty and I don't appreciate feeling like I'm trying to be manipulated and that's exactly how it came across. Poor, poor coverage. Stunk of a panic over potential lost rubles.
I find the term ‘Break away league’ extremely manipulative. That sounded like six clubs are breaking away from all competitions, including the PL.
It took a lot of digging to find out that big six not intended break away from the league. I don’t think sky mentioned this once during their long winded moan.
I’m sure significant percentage of outraged fans still believe that the big six intend to break away from PL.
I can’t blame Neville though, I had almost exact same reaction when I first heard it. Sky managed to word it to generate the biggest outrage , and it has worked so far

Neville is paid significant sums of money for expert analysis though. He wouldn't have looked out of place on AFTV last night. You can react like that, you're not an 'expert'
And yes, the language used as well as the call for things like stripping titles is all clearly being done to whip up the hounds.
People aren't half easy to manipulate, as history has shown time and time again. This is no different.
What struck me is they haven't even laid out the details of it. People haven't even noticed. They aren't even attacking the foundation of it. It's pure emotional pleading. Comes across like propaganda.
I'd threaten to cancel my sky subscription in an enraged protest, people seem to like doing that but I'm not a moron and I know I will want to use it so I'll suck it up.
Yes, they have been dreadful in last 24 hours. Did you see them harassing Jose when he is returning home after getting sacked?
Don’t like the Jose but that is a disgraceful conduct for a supposed top sports channel
