Morning Sandy
Annoying thing about being 3 points off 3rd is in some prior games we haven't turned up in and dropped so many points from winning positions!
5th or 6th is about reflective of our quality at this point but it's the manner of performances that are the worry not the results in isolation. We've seen so many halves like that first half yesterday over the last 2 and half years really. Unfortunately you cannot just get rid of every player, so spurs need a coach to slowly phase players out who are not working out and bringing in few new faces that can transform us.
Would it not have made more sense to bring Harry Redknapp back until the end of the season? Surely more chance of beating City and getting a decent league run together.

Morning Phenom, that first half last night was dreadful, they were completely outclassed by a side that are bottom of the form table in the Prem for 2021, and had lost eight of their last nine Prem games. I think it got better second half only because Southampton tired.
The midfield is pretty poor as it stands, and will get overrun by Man City at the weekend, unless a miracle occurs.
Morning Sandy.
Fair play to Hugo I'm not his greatest fan but he kept us in it during a woeful first half.
Glad for Mason that we won and the second half was much better albeit against the worst team in the Prem since xmas.
I agree about the midfield, it sounds alright on paper but goes missing for huge periods of the match. As I've said in previous articles I accept that Jose carried the can for our poor performances/results but whoever takes over needs to supervise a massive squad overhaul.
This gutless lazy lot are capable of getting any manager the sack.
PEH needs to look forward and pass forward more. Too many times he plays it quickly but backwards when he has more time.
GLC can be sloppy and his final ball often lack precision. He seems to get better during games but i was surprised he was not taken off sooner with Lamela to come on.
NDombele is a class act but at times he doesnt have much to work with. Someone like ALli would complement him much better as he finds those spaces in the hole and he is able to thread those passes.
Though Winks looked decent coming on. He does seem incapable of playing a really telling pass these days but him and PEH are a better partnership in CM with NDombele ahead of them. Dont think GLCs form deserves a starting place a the moment.
What i think we really lack is a far more energetic dynamic CM. All ours seem quite immobile - A Kante/Fred type who buzz around box to box, but who also need a bit of creativity too.

Yes thats my concern Sandy.
It was important to get over the line last night. Different mood about the place now. Pretty despondent after our showing in the first half but at least showed a bit of courage to turn it around, albeit against a team we should be beating. Confidence is key.
To be fair to Mason I think he's done okay. It hasn't been easy but I think he's dealt with it well. Let's hope he turns out to be a better manager than he was as a player. It has been known.
I still think GLC can do a job. He needs a good run now and remain injury free to build up some momentum for these remaining games. I like his attitude, he likes a tackle and he's got an eye for a pass. When he's at full tilt we'll see the best of him. Again, confidence is so important. The tenacity's there.
Tanguy frustrates the fk out of me. Needs to cut out the melodramatics for a start.

I have to admit I did quite enjoy the second half show, and winning a game without Kane was good going forward.
N`domble going around in 360 degree circles, then losing the ball doesn`t impress me a lot. Not sure what he actually does, he rarely scores, rarely assists, has the occasional foray forward, which usually comes to nothing. Very poor for the money Spurs played for him. He gives me the the impression, he wants to be anywhere but Spurs.

What I will say about Tanguy is that you can't really leave him out of this team. When he's on it he's the only one with his head up looking to get the ball forward as soon as he's received it. He's good at playing it through the lines. He certainly needs to be more composed, sometimes his brain works a bit quicker than his feet. He's only young, he'll improve.

Fair points.
All fair points re NDombele. Defo talented, not sure his game is that well suited to the English game. Looks better suited to a slower pace & bit more time on the ball on the continent. I think we got fleeced a bit with him.... especially when you look at the impact of Bruno at United for similar money. Wish we had got our shlt together and got him that summer instead of NDombele and GLC
The first half was naff but let's be fair the players are low on confidence and have had very little time with the manager to form a cohesive plan. Southampton would have known to come out all guns blazing and attack Spurs so it's hardly surprising that we couldn't do anything.
Second half was excellent and more importantly it was great to hear people like Bale say after the game that Spurs need to attack, keep possession and dominate games - all things we didn't do under Jose.
Lastly I will say that with Mason as 'manager' the players will be much happier - there's a reason why managers are getting younger in different sports around the world, they can connect with modern players much better than the old dinosaurs.
What I will say Sandy is no way was Jose playing Bale yesterday if he were in charge. He would of found a way not to play Bale even with Kane injured. Doesn’t take a genius to work out the guy still has quality and his 9 goals and 2 assists in his last 11 starts is proof of that. Been saying all along, play Gareth Bale regularly. Thank god Mourinho has gone now, he was a complete dinosaur that finally I realised after the mess he left the club in the last 6 months. We are where we are because so many other clubs around us have been poor, not because of anything brilliant Mourinho has done. Let’s Hope for a decent end to the season and a battling performance in the cup final. Something that was light years away from happening under Jose. Oh and agree about GLC and ndombele. Both simply not good enough for the money we paid.
Bit much to criticise Spurs' first half performance when Mason had 2 days to turn around 17 months' worth of bad coaching and negative tactics. With a bit of time (more than 2 days, anyway) a progressive coach will work wonders with players like Ndombele (no apostrophe, it's really not that hard) and Lo Celso.

I don't blame Mason one bit for our shocking first half showing last night its entirely down to the players.

The thing about Jose that i really dislike, and which will really undermines the confidence of players, is that one bad performance and you're out.
Bale hit that streak of form, played against Arsenal where they exploited that side of the pitch and we don't see Bale again.
Sanchez had a run of games where he looked to be improving and becoming more consistent, had a shocker vs NUFC and is dropped.
This happened a lot with Dier, Winks and others.
While sometimes players need dropping, you get the impression Jose does it angry, doesnt really explain the reasoning or manage the player/situation, and then everyone is on edge that their next mistake will seem them pushed to the margins.
Then some time later as others make mistakes players are brought back in from the wilderness knowing that they must deliver or are gone. While players need to feel this pressure to a degree, competition for places, it really has to be managed by the coach, rather than him acting as an executioner

Agreed mate. Bale had finally found his place in the team and was really clicking scoring some good goals, then he has 1 poor performance v Arsenal, as did the rest of the team and we never see Bale again. P*** poor management from Jose.
Why don't you admit that Jose gets 90% of the credit for last nights win? Bale was his loan arrangement and the first half designed to lull the opposition to a false sense of security entirely his stamp.

Don, Didn`t Jose bring Bale back to the club? If not for Jose, Bale would have never even come back in all probability.
People criticizing GLC need to remember he has had a lengthy injury lay off and only recently returned to the team, he is not going to find top form and fitness straight away, on the whole I thought he had a decent game last night.
Ndombele has great ability, but has been held back by Mourinho`s defensive tactics, get him playing in a confident possession based team and under a manager who knows how to get the best out of him, and we will probably see a different player.
"A Decent Three Points"........
3 points are always "decent".......but if it wasn't for Hugo Lloris we certainly would not have them!
Bale got a chance to show what he can do.....and he did!
I think our midfield could have been better....someone has to coach NDombele into acquiring new tricks...all defenders know his 360 degree turn now, so they're ready for it. But he is still our strongest player on the ball, so always getting double teamed. That leaves someone else free, and he has to develop vision to find that someone.
Reguilon had a good game, we need to keep him if we can.
I think this team, without Kane, may do well against City .....if DeBruyne is injured.

I like his attitude, he likes a tackle and he's got an eye for a pass. When he's at full tilt we'll see the best of him. Again, confidence is so important. The tenacity's there.
Tanguy frustrates the fk out of me. Needs to cut out the melodramatics for a start.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
He gives me the the impression, he wants to be anywhere but Spurs.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
We've all been there.

As I've said previously Jose had to go but while we have this half hearted group of players things won't get much better.

It was funny watching him on the side lines. He almost seemed scared to raise his voice. Lots of point but even in an empty stadium i don't think anyone could hear his instructions. Bless him. 29 Makes me feel very old!
