OP, we do have the start of something. Saliba, Gabriel, Tierney is a potential long term 3 of a back 4 (Mari shouldn't be overlooked though). Partey will come good. Then you have Saka, ESR and Martinelli.
There are obvious gaps, and a need for good player development. But our potential under the right hands is far better than our season.

Surely every team we’re trying to compete with could say the same? I think we are underperforming with the players we have, but as you say a lot of other teams have been crap too. The key thing is who gets their sh-t together, recruits well, and goes on to get that consistency? You really think Arsenal are likely to be the ones to get it right, based on recent experience?

Completely agree, we've had a rotten season but if we take a step back and analyse the fine margins in some of our results and unlucky var decisions that wen't against us, its not hard to see where we can improve, the potential is there as you said in the right hands.

Well you're right our recent history in the transfer market doesn't inspire confidence, but its not hard to see how we could improve.
It felt like we've been so bad and so far behind the ones above us this season, but if you take a step back you realise, how bad they've all been that we were only 2 wins away from being in the mix for top 4, after probably the worst season we've ever had. Could be argued we're not that far off...

We have Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in the run in so a win there would have closed the gap to 3 on them, assuming they were still 4th.
Anyway it doesn’t matter because we are awful and no chance of us going on any sort of winning run or winning at Stamford Bridge. More likely to finish bottom half of the table
So if Leicester win tonight then their top 4 place is done and dusted?

You're 12 points off 4th with a massive inferior goal difference which is basically an extra point. I'm struggling to see how 2 wins would have put you in the mix for top 4?

We have Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in the run in so a win there would have closed the gap to 3 on them, assuming they were still 4th.
Anyway it doesn’t matter because we are awful and no chance of us going on any sort of winning run or winning at Stamford Bridge. More likely to finish bottom half of the table
