Phenom, I don`t actually have a problem with Man City winning the lottery, I am sure we would be much the same, if we had won it. But I would like to think we would do it with a bit more humility, and admit it was only the money that had purchased our success. The modern City fans show no such humility, and think they and Pep are actually doing it on merit alone.
This is a strange and incredibly bitter post.
I don’t think there is a City fan who denies that our takeover in 2008 is the reason why we’ve gone from a mediocre (at best) premier league team to one regularly challenging for (and winning) trophies. There is even a banner at The Etihad thanking our owner.
Of course money is needed to compete. I do remember however at the time of the takeover plenty of people would say “money doesn’t guarantee success”, but that narrative soon changed when we did indeed start becoming successful.
I don’t quite know what you want to get out of this post Sandy. Is it to make yourself feel better after losing a game you felt you would win yesterday?
Spot on Sandy. I would also add that the financial advantage that City have is unprecedented in Premier League history. I expect the close season will see them bring in more big names. They'll probably spend more on one player than we (Leeds) will spend on all our incoming players.
Most expensive squad in world football history a few years back, not sure if it is now.

How can facts be construed as bitter fella? You tell me. The contrast between before the Lottery win and after is staggering. I am just trying to show that every trophy has been purchased with oil money.
You say money is needed to compete, of course it does, but not so much money that it blows all competition out of the water. And that is what the oil money has done.
City have gone from nothing to everything in the space of such a short time.

They can blow all opposition out of the water with their spending power, so even if it not the most expensive squad now, it certainly was, and will be again in the future. The have not earnt any of their trophies as my table proves. They went from absolutely nothing to serial trophy winners on the back of a lottery win.

Ripley, I don't begrudge the success City have had and will continue to have. I wish your owners had bought us (Leeds). My concern is that your financial advantage is unprecedented and moves the PL closer to a Bayern Munich situation, where they have won their League eight seasons in a row.
Agree sandy , makes our title win even more special, we give them a good run finishing 1 point behind them , then won it 👍
Let’s hope next season some more teams can compete , and we get a proper defensive unit going
It’s bitter because it’s written as an afterthought to yesterday’s game, and also because you’re making things up and misconstruing what people actually think.
You’re having a dig at City fans, when we are fully aware of what it took to enable our club to compete at the top. The money has enabled the club to grow to a level that we thought we would never be able to attain.
And we are enjoying it. Why wouldn’t we?
It’s the kind of thing that has happened time and time again throughout the history of the game. Every big club - the giants of the game - required investment to varying degrees over and above other clubs. The level of City’s investment is (rightly) seen as unprecedented because it has come at a time when money in football overall is unprecedented.
No city fan denies this. That is something you have pulled out of your backside in your attempt to have a dig at City fans. That is bitter.
Well said Sandy, brilliant article. If the same people who bought City in 2008 had decided to buy Wigan Athletic then Wigan would’ve won all those trophies.
City are nothing but a small club with big, undeserved money and all of their trophies are tainted and mean nothing.

Culer, as a Leeds fan, you do sound somewhat bitter. When you were hoovering up titles along with Arsenal, you were also spending big. Didn't you break the British transfer record when you signed Rio Ferdinand from us?
As I've said in previous posts, I don't begrudge City's spending, I fear that the EPL will either become a one horse race as the Bundesliga is, or a two horse race as the SPL, where Celtic and Rangers have won every title since 1984-85 season.
Aren't Spurs over £1 billion in debt? It could be argued that Spurs aren't where they are on sporting merit either, but have lived beyond their means and debt loaded.
Sandy, I bet Daniel Levy loves your posts.
City aren't your enemy, neither are they the enemy of football.
They've just confirmed the fact that you need to speculate to accumulate which has been a fact of footballing life for over a Century.
Tainted trophies left right and centre. This season will be the most tainted of the lot.

We spent big because we earned it by winning trophies on our own merit. Look at the first batch of trophies we won under SAF from 1990-1994, we didn't break the bank for them did we? Sensible spending and proper team building unlike City with their disgraceful spending.
