Don’t you expect to play the better sides at the business end of a cup competition ?????
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I have just proven that you don`t, by naming 14 sides that have been to finals since Spurs were last in one. None of them could be called better sides. And Spurs have beaten them all on multiple occasions in league matches, so I am sure they would also beat them in a final, if they were ever to have met.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Sandy, we could have played any one of those 14 sides had we not got knocked out early. The year City played Watford, we got knocked out by Palace in the 4th round. The year Arsenal played Hull, it was Arsenal that dumped us out in the 3rd round. Ww should make a habit of reaching finals first, instead of messing up in the early stages.

OP - forgetting 2010 when we were drawn with a relegation bound Pompey, who couldn’t play one of their players OHara because he was cup tied, with Cardiff in the final.
That was about as easy as it gets and we royally messed it up
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Like one easy draw 10 years ago is relevant. Yes Harry made a right mess of that semi-final, but in general Spurs don`t get easy FA Cup semis, I think their last two or three have been Chelsea and United.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Arsenal have had to play City in a semi and Chelsea in a final on their way to their last 2 FA Cup titles in 2017 and 2020.
Had to knock United out in the quarters when they won it in 2015.
And also had to knock out both Spurs and Liverpool when they won it in 2014.

Problem is that to get that free hit in the final, you still have to beat at least one of those big hitters in an earlier round - it's very unlikely that you're gonna win a trophy without having to beat at least one of them along the way.
For example, in the year that we beat Hull in the final, we knocked you out along the way.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Spurs beat Chelsea this year in the League Cup, then have to play the best club Man City in the final. Effectively they would have to beat two of this season`s CL semi-finalists to win what is perceived as a mickey mouse cup. Yet lots of our fans say Spurs had it easy. You couldn`t make it up.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
This exactly, we shouldn't let fans confuse us with this bottling tag.

Well they are clearly better than most clubs, otherwise they would be bottom of the Prem. Just not as good as well all like to think they are. Spurs have lots of overrated players, forget about the likes of Sissoko, Winks, Dier etc, who we know are not good enough. The likes of Lo Celso, N`dombele, Reguilion are vastly overrated by large sections of our fans base. You could probably throw in Hojberg as well.

I think Levy knew he made a mistake by hiring Jose and didn’t wanna risk paying him a bonus for winning a cup or giving him the remaining league games to make top 4 (probably comes with another bonus). He used the ESL debacle as good day to hide bad news and as result sacrificed our chance of trophy to save a few quid..... just the latest in a long line of mistakes of being cheap ahead of prioritizing success on the pitch..... nothing new here.
Under no circumstances has giving Mason the job got anything to do with winning football matches
Blimey, sandy, including Sheffield Wednesday is a bit of a reach, mate. They might be struggling in the Championship these days, but at that point they were a very decent top flight outfit, and Arsenal weren’t the team they had been under George Graham.
The two sides were pretty evenly matched.
Neville creaming over peps finals record, yes its good but hes never once been underdog doubt hes even been evens.
With every day that passes it become more obvious that everything Poch said about what needed to be done to Spurs was 100% right. By the time Levy bothered to listen and do something about it, it was too late. Its blindingly obvious Levy and Co have no facking clue what they are doing

That's quite a stretch.
As far as I can tell, Daniel Levy simply lost his nerve and sacked Jose after seeing him lose the dressing room and go on a run of 1 win in 5 going back to the NLD.
And it worked. You steamrolled Southampton, and I expect another similar display against Sheffield.
Levy's sole motivation is CL qualification, and the prospect of missing out on CL money for the second year in a row is almost unthinkable.

That's the funniest thing about Pep. Would he ever succeed at a club like Spurs?
I think not. He is ok when the club can buy him the players he needs and quickly.
I doubt and seriously doubt, he's succeed on a shoestrings, and no, don't bring me details of how well he did somewhere obscure.
Pep, Jose and some other managers only do well in clubs where the owner is throwing money at every problem at the club.
yeah this logic doesnt really stand up.
Spurs lost to Portsmouth in a SF when Pompey were relegated and we had Defoe Modric Bale etc in our team.
Under Poch i remember us losing to Palace in the cup and lest we forget we just lost to some part time Croatian goat herders in the ropey league. Last season Norwich knocked us out of the FA Cup & Colchester in the EFL.
Making excuses like this is pathetic.
I would say it is harder to win stuff now. The fact that Man City have won the EFL 4 years on the trot basically shows that even in the lowest competition you still have to beat the very best to win in. No one has managed that since 2017 ! City will win their 3rd title in 4 years and their 8th domestic trophy in 4 years. That's 8 out of 12 available. Unprecedented domination that makes winning anything even more difficult than it ever has been.
What a strange post. The best teams tend to get to finals and win them because, well, they're the best.
We do seem quite good at getting to the latter stages of cups, and the odd final, which would suggest we're in the best of the rest category but not good enough to win anything. It's quite simple.
I firmly we believe we were on the cusp of winning things but the club has taken several steps backwards this season, as we are all painfully aware. We had our moment in the sun but now we need to rebuild and hope we have another Harry Kane or two coming through the academy.

You gave 2 examples for United in the last 20 years you dozy old caant

Regardless of who we came up against 2 shots in a final is scandalous.
I've never been more ashamed and embarrassed by Spurs than I was on Sunday.
Just like the CL final can those players honestly say they had a real go?
I still can't believe Masons team selection and subs, my missis keeps telling me I've got to snap out of it.
