Vardy

Let me begin with I love Vardy.....
Alas he is off pace and does not score like he used to. He will not play forever. Even though we would love him to. Maybe his last injury combined with age has got the best of him? Thoughts?

Needs a good Rest for his injury, all strikers go through a period where scoring seems impossible, I actually think with Ian in the Team he is a better player, we are a better team.

There a lot of others who should be questioned before Vardy, they have nothing in the Bank and far more still to prove, I'd have a strong guess Vardy will still be a key player after they've moved on.

I agree TB about others performance is in question mentioning no names.. Tills and Madds... I just do not think he will be as good anymore. He still as an important part to play but not as a prolific goal scorer he was.

It is unbelievable how his goals have deserted him recently, but don't forget he's just got the golden boot last season and his contribution in the team right now is second to none. I hope he gets more luck with goals

Are we suddenly saying that Jamie Vardy is done because he’s tentative after his injury?

I think many are ignoring the reason Nacho is suddenly in form. Yep, the elephant.

We’re ignoring the greatest goalscorer we’ve seen in my lifetime at Leicester. The elephant.

Yes he looks a different player. Yes I’m unsure he’ll be able to lead the line again, but to suggest he’s done when he’s been setting Nacho up left right and centre in recent weeks is harsh.

1 more season at the top for me. Then we need to put him out to pasture with the biggest fanfare a player has had from our club in a very long time.

I’m with TB - it’s not Vardy why we lost today. He missed one chance. But Maddison, Perez, Tielemans we’re all guilty of slow build up play which pretty much nullified anything Vardy could do.

So yes, Vardy is an elephant in that he’s not the player he was, but my word what it the alternative? Perez. Stop me, I can’t stop laughing.

If Vardy is an elephant, beware the donkey.

Looks to me like he's being too nice, to Iheanacho (which is fine) and to opponents (which is not so fine). I think he's suffering the most from the fans not being there to rile him up.

Having slept on this I have another thought - he’s thinking too much.

He’s been asked to play a new role and do new things. He’s no longer playing on instinct and doing things naturally but having to consider what he’s doing.

This could be a genuine cause for what we’re seeing, but let’s not forget that the flip side is that he’s creating a goal for Nacho every game!

I've just posted the following on Dublin's match thread, but this seems to be a better place for it so for ease of reference I'll reproduce the text here:-

I've been concerned for some time that there didn't seem to be a plan for post-Vardy, but with Ian coming good of late that seemed to be less of an issue.

In terms of the present position re Jamie, I'd go along with the supposition that he's finished/come to the end/move on if he was clearly not outpacing defenders, making good runs, taking up clever positions in the box and the like; basically not getting chances. That would be an indication that his pace, which is a large part of his threat, may be going.

However, that does not seem to be the case, despite being generally less central he is getting opportunities, just not taking them. Add in that he may not be fully fit after his injury and still adapting to a markedly different way of playing, it is perhaps premature to write him off just yet.

I reckon if you asked every other team's centre back pairing of who they would prefer to face when playing us out of Ian/Perez and Ian/Vardy, there is little doubt in my mind which selection they would make, even with Jamie's lack of goals recently.

It may simply be a loss of confidence, which could return quickly and he could easily then be banging them in again on a regular basis. On the other hand, if this new pairing of Ian/Vards is working so well in getting the goals (and potentially extending Vardy's time in the team), who cares if Jamie isn't getting quite the share that he used to? If that is good for another year or two, it gives us time to find a longer term solution to the issue.

We should have bought him off you when we bought Kante...always said so...he's past it now

Agree Nuneaton I think it’s confidence. He’s over thinking it or trying to blast it when he doesn’t need to. One or two goals and he’ll be back on it. You only have to look back to his early city career to see he is a confidence player. He needs the swagger rebuilding, which with opposition fans to set right would have added an additional catalyst.

I think each game he has been back since his injury he’s looked slightly better than the last. He looks faster than when he returned, then more combative, he’s getting into better positions again, he’s getting more shots off. Just need him to stop forcing the final effort, and find his zone to rely on his undoubted natural instinct.

Agree with all of that Nuneaton, good post.

I think he is actually trying too hard.
He is in a different position and whilst he may not be scoring, his efforts and contribution are unquestionable.
He doesn't seem as confident in front of goal, and seems to choose wrong option of where to place the ball.
I have no doubt that he will find his touch again,he obviously is enjoying playing and am sure he will find his touch when we most need it.
Class is permanent,form is temporary.
Could it be written in the stars that he finds his touch at Wembley, and proves his doubters wrong.
