There’s no doubting Mourinho did pretty week results wise for a while but I’m not sure there was ever a point in his reign that you felt we were at least on the verge of being a top side.

It feels different now and a couple more very good signings could see us become very good.

I'm not Wahl.

My intention was to show that Ole has done very well for someone still learning his trade at this level. I wouldn't want Mourinho anywhere near this club again despite his superior record.

posted on 1/5/21

For the record, I feel that Ole deserves another season or two even if he doesn't win the Europa this season. The club is on an upward trajectory and this is not the time to be replacing with a supposedly more "cultured" manager. We've been down that path before and it didn't bring much success.

The most important difference between the two is that Ole isn't a grade A 2@.

Hi culer. Leave those sharks alone.,

Another case of mistaken identity. I suppose it can't be helped with some of the WUMs on these boards.

Back on topic though, how do feel about Ole's managerial record so far?

Agreed. Apart from Ole's merits as a manager, he does come across as a decent human being and I would be so pleased for him if he were to lift another trophy with the club.

Interestingly Poch has 2 less wins than Mourinho in his first 86 games at Spurs. But again, like Ole, he was leading us somewhere while Jose wasn't and we're all glad to see the back of him.

Poch did improve Spurs so much in his years in charge but the difference between Poch at Spurs and Ole at United is that Poch seemed to lose his way in his last few months whereas Ole is still getting consistent results. Nonetheless, I'd still rather have Poch in charge instead of Mourinho if I were a Spurs supporter.

Poch managed spurs for twice as long as ole has Utd, that’s a daft comparison

To be fair, my original comparison was between Ole and Mourinho who have both been in charge of United for the same amount of matches. The so-called PE teacher has done quite well in comparison to someone that was once regarded as the top manager in football. While Mourinho did win a few trophies with United, I would much rather watch the current team mature and evolve under Ole.

Yeah and there are reasons behind Poch losing his way which Ole doesn't get to experience at United.

I assume you're referring to the transfer budgets that these two managers have had. Poch earned the right to be backed in the transfer market at Spurs and it's a shame that he wasn't. It will be interesting to see where he can take PSG in the next few seasons now that he's at a club with huge resources.

Yes primarily the financial situation and working with Levy. Poch also had to make do with a change of stadium.

Poch will win trophies at PSG but the success will really lie with how they do in the CL and that's always hard to predict.

Hard to predict indeed. Even Guardiola hasn't added another CL trophy to his CV since leaving Barcelona despite having some of the world's best players at his disposal. That's why judging a manager only based on trophies won can at times be misleading. If a manager can get a team to compete and make steady progress then I feel he's worth holding onto. In Ole's case, I do see progress and I think he would have been a little closer to competing for the league title this year if it hadn't been for the injury to Pogba earlier in the season. We need more strength in depth in midfield (and other areas) to better cope with injuries to star players.

Even though you are favourites for the Europa, if you were to not win it would you view Ole differently then?

If he wins it then it's been a very good season finishing 2nd and winning a European trophy, but if you lose in the final and it's possible, do you think that raises big questions about how far you can go with Ole?

----------------------------------------------------------------------
I admit that I would be somewhat concerned if Ole doesn't get his hands on the Europa League trophy this year, but I would still persist with him as our manager for another season even if he didn't. A few weeks ago he was being berated for not getting his team past the semi-finals in any of the cup competitions and now he is on the verge of his first final as manager of United so that also counts as progress in my book.

Let's not forget that it took quite a few seasons for managers like Ferguson and Klopp to make everything click. Also, we have to bear in mind that teams like Man City and Liverpool have been putting together mind-blowing points totals in the league these last few seasons so failing to the win the league doesn't necessarily mean that a manager like Ole isn't doing well. Sometimes you just have to accept that there are better teams out there in the same way that United had to accept that Barcelona were the better team in those two CL finals a few years back.
