He’s not, he’s saying it on a brink of the game that wins the PL title.

A bit nit picking. I doubt he will say differently next week

I dont think he's fully telling the truth

Its more that the CL requires luck and the PL much less so, to the point of almost removing luck as a factor. So to make yourself the best team possible you would focus on the league performance as the main measure rather than a cup competition

From a mindset perspective I can see why they all focus on the league. I doubt for the City owners though that they want the CL less than the title

You could well be right. It's only Peps opinion, that's on BBC sport. And Ive posted it because I have said the same in the past on here, and found few agreeing, so seeing Pep saying it was a confirmation I'm not the only one.

Could it be pep taking the opportunity to have a go at the recent ESL controversy

posted on 8/5/21

I wonder what the City and Bayern owners think about that view?

posted on 8/5/21

I think the old fashioned view is that the title is the bread and butter but let’s be honest, the real prestige is the Champions League.

I think he was being honest. It's always the PL for me, it means we're the best team. If you win the CL but finish third la, you are surely not the best team in Europe.

The CL feels a bit empty if you don’t win the title with it. City could become only the 2nd English side to win both in the same season.

posted on 8/5/21

Everybody knows that in England the Premier League title is the first and most important trophy to win. Anything else is a bonus and that includes the Champions League.... and that doesn't dilute the fact that winning the CL is still a major achievement.

Which is why for the English anyway, an ESL would be nothing without still retaining the English League title as the Blue Riband competition.

Which most foreign (American) club owners and many so called 'Fans for the Future' from abroad, fail to grasp.

You have managed to out daft yourself there.

It just reads like covering his backside if Tuchel beats him in the CL final

“Well as I said before the PL was our main goal this year”

100% agree

He is saying it, because it’s the only trophy he is certain to win.

Don't agree.

Al the best teams in europe compete for the champions league. Only the best teams in england compete for the league.

Which is why there has only been what, 5 english winners in the last 25 years?

....

Of course you don’t. You are an imbecile.

Doesn’t matter who is involved in a cup competition, it’s still just a cup. Anyone can win it regardless of being the best team that year or not. Of course it’s still a fantastic achievement but if you aren’t even the best team in your country over the course of a full season (winning the PL) then you aren’t the best team in Europe that year just for winning the cup.

If you win both, no one can argue otherwise.

Ok.

And if you don't win the champions league, you cannot claim to have been the best team that year in Europe.

As for "anyone can win it". The past ten years of winners are bayern munich, liverpool, real madrid, barcelona, Chelsea. All huge teams, all won a league title in that time frame.

This idea that because it is a cup competition, any old team can just win it is laughable.

To win the champions league you need to perform well in the biggest games, against the best teams in europe, when the pressure is on.

You can you're the best team in the premier league.

Or you can say you were the best team in the champions league.

And then people can make up their own minds which one has bigger, and better teams in it.
