The big issue seller , nothing gets past our Nat Phillips
He's been great.
With VVD out we badly needed a physical presence with good aerial ability and Phillips has given us that.
Kabak pah... keep Phillips and bring another CB in. Phillips has comfortably out performed him. Konate looks the favourite just now.
Der.......he does look like one.
Virgil will improve when he plays alongside Nat Phillips
Outstanding performance from Phillips, against Burnley which is always going to be playing to his strengths. He has improved also and I'd be happy to have him as fourth or fifth choice, which I think he'd take for one season but he's good enough to be a starter every week for a bottom half PL team, which I think he'll want to do after a season when hopefully we have defenders fit, next season, meaning he doesn't get enough games.
His lack of pace is definitely an issue when Liverpool revert back to a high defensive line, when injured players return. He is like Maguire in lots of ways and noting how he has kinda been thrown in, I'm sure he will continue to grow as a player. In the right set up he can definitely do a job and be imposing.
If Liverpool do cash him in, which I don't think they should, he would be a solid signing for lots of Pl teams.
He's got that hardwork ethic that, when a player listens, can really result in some real development.
Already his improvement has been impressive. Few players go from thinking they have no chance to play to playing in the CL against RM etc. That's a huge gap.

Yeah , reminds me of Carra playing wise
Superb option to have in the squad just for these types of games where we get aerially barraged. Really hope he gets a new contract.
I think I'd sell him tbh. Yes, he has done well for us with Thiago, Fabinho and Wijnaldum in front of him and it's been a great run of performances in the main but he's not the future and we concede chances really quite easily at the minute. I love his mentality and he looks a good lad to have about but his stock is probably high and, as long as we bring in Konate, if we had a fifth choice I'd go with Rhys. Koumetio was on the bench tonight too, maybe through availability than anything else.
An Edwards classic of £20m to Norwich or something and bring in Konate for me.

I agree with you with a lot you have said but he has won me over. He makes less mistakes than Williams and is improving with each game.
We need to buy Konate now and keep Phillips for certain games.

A new contract for me. Has been very impressive and there is still a role for him even when the injured players return.
I'm not sold on Konate. Been injury prone or he's sitting on Leipzig bench.
People need to see what he was doing yesterday.
He was aggressive, one his man and followed him up the park.
Everything young rhys has not yet added to his game. Hes got 4 games, let's please not hammer the lad.
Phillip's is getting what klopp needs from a cb. Its just he is as slow as treacle.
Phillips has been better than Gomez this season when he was fit. Gomez was making mistakes every game.
I thought Gomez was excellent as soon as VVD got injured, he really stepped up, but his form was iffy before that tbf.
I've certainly got no problem with Phillips being in the squad, and I suspect people will get what they want and he will be in the squad next season, but personally I feel he is riding the crest of a wave a bit and I'm struggling to see past the fact he has really poor tekkers.
Rhys isn't the answer either fwiw and shouldn't be playing really.
I'd still take decent money for Nat.
I'd want to keep Phillips probably up until January just incase lightning strikes twice with these injury issues at the back as he can do the basics right, whereas Williams gets caught out a lot and Kabak is just poor and is going back to Schalke anyway.
I do think if the injuries are not as bad the club will probably look to move him on in January next season, but I wouldn't be massively surprised if it was in the summer. Fair play to the lad though, done really well given the circumstances and has definitely grasped the opportunity given to him which will probably give him a better career than he imagined this time 12 months ago.

Fair assessment.
Sometimes players that has limited ability come along and make it at top clubs. I’m casting my mind back to Sammy Lee who played in one of the best ever Liverpool team with Souness, Rush and Dalglish. I don’t think anyone expected him to stay as long as he did but he just kept on improving.
I’m not sure Nat is as good as Sammy but there is only one way to find out and that’s to keep him next season. He’s earned his chance after all.

We still play a high line with Nat in the team. He's just improved on his positional play and is very aggressive in trying to win the ball high up. Got no qualms with him playing next to VVD in certain games next season. Certain games being the Burnleys, West Ham etc
I personally think unlikely players who work hard are relatively common
Carragher comes to mind. I mean you could only ever call carra a limited player.
Look at fletcher at utd. limited player
phillips is slow. but look what he was doing yesterday, he was following wood, he was on him like a rash and agressive. He was in 1 on 1s all the time and giving nothing.
compare to Williams. Now lets not bash a kid learning but the difference is important as it shows what the kid needs to learn. He was caught constantly between going and stepping back, he couldn't get it right go with the guy and hammer him is better than getting caught with a ball over your head that you've played all onside.
Philips got to keep. Games like Burnley, west ham, wba he is perfect for.
