I don’t know what went wrong with Unai at arsenal. We went from singing ‘we’ve got our arsenal back’ to an irreversible slump that saw him get sacked. I feel when he has a team with no egos and on a level field he manages to get maximum out of those players. I feel their were many who just didn’t get his philosophy at the time with certain players who just didn’t want him there. It’s sad it didn’t work out with us, fairplay to Him and Villarreal tho.
It was Hazard's swansong game. You never stood a chance whoever the manager was

No Arsenal fan can say they were surprised to see Emery immediately take a striker off and bring Coquelin on as soon as United scored their equaliser with 45 minutes left to play.
Emery's only problem during his time at Arsenal was that he was simply at the wrong club. Both the fanbase and the club hierarchy were simply not prepared to embrace "handbrake football". Not after 22 years of Wenger-ball.
And I suspect that this is what will eventually do our current ultra-defensive manager in. Arteta could bag a trophy in each of the next 3 seasons, but he will always have a hard time winning everyone over.

It had something to do with the manager. Picking soft unquantifiable qualities such as 'leadership' or 'weak mentality' is usually a cop out for failure of preparation.
The team mentality is down to the manager but there's also players who are simply weak mentally and can't be moulded and we have many of them. Mentality and attitude is just as important as talent, especially when it comes down to the crucial moments in big games, when we desperately needed a goal against Villareal there was nobody who stepped up and looked to take responsibility.
Not sure about that 8bit. I think repetitions in training as well as tactics is key to a getting performance from a player. There are numerous reasons, in my opinion, when a player may not perform, for example physical readiness, form, tiredness etc. Some players are developing so probably need closer coaching etc. Of course there will be a difference in quality where players separate themselves from the others specifically because they can perform under highest pressure. The problem with us of course is that we will never be able to buy those proven Galacticos. We can only buy players who a good head coach can develop that ability in the future and one who can get lesser players to perform those levels.
And those games against Vilarreal? In my opinion our manager didn't commit to attack for the first game or the first half the second game. After that it was too late.
We've had this issue for years since Wenger was here, it's not down to any specific manager or tactics. Managers have a big influence on the mentality of the squad but there's only so much they can do depending on the players and we have a very poor group. We've got players with talent but they're not consistent or don't turn up when it really matters. Someone like Tierney on the other hand leads from the front and rarely has a bad game. But we don't have many of those characters and you need them to be successful.

I remeber when Newcastle paid £15mil for Shearer thinking "we'd never spend that kind of money on a player" (relative costs of course)
Different eras. Different owners had different problems. You cannot compare how we conducted business in the past just like you cannot compare problems different managers face and how they have solved or not solved those unique problems.
Our problem now lie with Kroenke's indifference to our performances and acceptance of mediocrity. In the past players were often given a pass on their performances and now it seems they have accepted 'no consequences approach' at management level as well.
