why was bale playing in amarica with spurs not with the GB team?

Been a couple of weeks since it was highlighted
Bale and spurs decided he was too injured to represent GB, but fit enough to play for spurs in America. Thankfully Charlie Adam actually injured him in a friendly the other day, now he really can't play because of injury
and im on holiday and not handed tactics in since then....
The tackle wasnt even that bad tbh
the commentators tried to explain it during the friendly, and they said the reasoning was something like spurs didnt expect his back injury to heal as quickly as it did
He was playing before the Olympics even started, spurs just made an injury up so he's not back late
