Liverpool vs Birmingham City

Liverpool took on Birmingham which promised to be an exciting clash with two of the leagues best managers going head to head. Liverpool got off to a good start, Wilshere lost the ball cheaply in the middle and Liverpool countered, Ramires steam rolled forward and played through Cavani but Vermalen blocked the pass but it fell to Isla whose shot just went wide. Liverpool came forward and were on top in the first twenty minutes, they went close when Isla crossed in for Cavani and his header just went wide of the post. Birmingham nearly scored against the run of play when Marcelo speeded down the left flank and knocked the ball past Ivanovic. He got to the byline and put in a low cross for Robin Van Persie whose shot crashed against the bar. Birmingham came forward again and should of took the lead when Wilshere came forward and played a chipped ball over the Liverpool defence and Yaya Toure ran on to it and he tried to round the keeper but he took the ball wide and shot wide from a tight angle. In the 39th minute Birmingham got their reward for all of that pressure. Robben speeding down the left wing, he put in a cross for Eto and the Cameronian international made no mistake putting the ball home from 6 yards. The last five minutes Birmingham kept possession and no real chances happened. However in the first ten minutes of the second half, Liverpool got back in to the game. Hazard put a ball in for Cavani and he headed down for Ramires but he couldn't get his half volley down. Liverpool continued to come forward and on the hour mark they rattled the bar when Cavani nut megged Vermalen and launched his shot towards the top corner but a finger tip save by Cech denied the uruaygan powerhouse. Liverpool got their reward seven minutes later. Isla put a cross in towards Cavani but Vermalen headed it out only for it to fall to Ramires who fired home with a good finish. Liverpool didn't stop there and looked to take the lead, Pastore found Sturridge out wide. Sturridge ran inside and fired a shot from 25 yards but Cech pushed it wide for a corner. This was a wake up call for Birmingham and they started to attack Liverpool. It became an end to end game, Gervinho's shot rattling the cross bar and Liverpool then coming forward with Taiwo who played a brilliant cross field pass to Sturridge who ran in to the space left behind by Marcelo. He reached the outside of the area on the right and curled a cross in and Cavani's diving header hit the post. Then in the last 5 minutes, Birmingham struck. Gervinho came forward and smashed a shot towards goal but Hernandez made a late run and slid home. Liverpool then threw everything at Birmingham from the restart. Their best chance to get an equalizer was when Taiwo put in a corner and Ivanovic headed against the bar and it fell to Cavani but he couldn't get the ball out of his feet. The full time whistle went and you could hear a huge roar from the away end. Birmingham at the end of the season will look back at this game as one of the most crucial wins of the season.

Full Time Score: Liverpool 1-2 Birmingham City

Liverpool Goal Scorers:
Ramires 67

Birmingham Goal Scorers:
Eto'o 39 (Robben)
Hernandez 87 (Gervinho)

Liverpool MOTM: Ramires - 8 - He was here there and everywhere for Liverpool. Didn't stop running and played out of his skin. Scored with a fine finish and was very unlucky to be on the losing side.

Birmingham MOTM: Samuel Eto'o - 8 - Scored and put in a very good shift. Has had a good return to the Premier League.

I'm delighted with win vs Newcastle. Think I have 3 really decent strikers in Soldado, Gomez and Sigthorsson.

2 wins in a row, point against Man Utd. Think:

--------Inler-----Montolivo-------

------------Van Der Vaart--------

is looking really decent and well balanced in centre of the park

Plan on playing Arshavin as my attacking mid in a 4-2-3-1. Thinking my strongest is

Rafael - Samuel - Albiol - Chivu
--------- L.Diarra - Melo
Walcott ----- Arshavin --- Robinho
----------------- Forlan
