almost a great start for chelsea, mikel 40 yard pass sending malouda through but guess what he missed lol. then malouda pass to sturridge overhit and robinson saved

Wigan v Portsmouth

Wigan at home with a very defensive 5-4-1 against a Pompey team in good form after a win against Hull last week.
Pompey started the better and tried to play football against a very negative Wigan, however, they were closed down very quickly and could not get anywhere near the Wigan goal. They tried there very best to make this a spectical but Wigan had it in there heads to defend and they were doing just that, wave after wave of attack from Pompey but they just couldnt get the opener, they created a great chance in 27 mins whn Inler broke up play which Montolivo picked up, he played it out wide to Cazorla who got to the bye line and crossed in, however Marchena was there to clear. Boos from the home fans as they were creating nothing..and Pompey were clearly in charge. They tried again but everytime they had the ball the players were surronded and just couldnt do anything about it. Gignac was looking very frustrated up front and still, after 35 mins hadnt touched the ball..Pompey went again and there best chances to break wigan down were out wide, this time Kroos picked up from VDW and had a go at Fucile, he turned him and drove into the box, obviously frustrated he went himself and had a go at Butt, but the keeper mad a fine save and tipped over. from the resulting corner, Gomez had a header go over.
Half-Time 0-0

The second half started exactly the same way with Wigan 9 men behind the ball, trying to stop the threat of Pompey and again it was working. They couldnt get through...A surprise chance fell for Wigan in 65 mins when a hoof up the park from Luisao was met by Gignac, his touch was poor but Pirlo was there to meet it, however he blasted over when he had time to control it. Wigan maybe took heart from there 1st chance of the game and brought on Fer for Diarra.. and a few minutes later Canales came on for Vaart..on 73 minutes Fer picked up the ball from Pirlo and played in a magical ball for Gignac but again the big hitman wasted the chance. Pompey really were frustrated by Wigan and it was showing as Inler flew into Pirlo with a bad challenge which saw himself recieve a yellow card..Wigan were irate that it should have been red, but the ref ushered them away. Finally this game sparked into life, but with only 8 mins to go surely one goal would settle it, Wigan thought they had the winner on 85 mins..A long kick from Butt was met by Gignac, his knock down was met by Fer who hit a low drive past Akinfeev, they ran away celebrating, however the linesman had his flag up and it was ruled out for offside. TV replays show he was clearly on side and it should have stood. This would have been totally unjust for Pompey...Fer and Gignac were right on the Ref showing their anger and both were booked rightly. Portsmouth had one final crack at going forward and again it was through Cazorla he drove passed Anyukov and played in a great cross, but for some reason Luisao stuck his hand out, the ref blew and it was a penalty to portsmouth..Gomez picked the ball up and placed it on the spot. Wigan players were around him trying to put him off and there was a 2 min delay befor he could take it. When he was ready the ref blew and Gomez made absolutely no mistake and thundered it right down the middle leaving Butt no chance as he dived to the right. Pompey players were away celebrating as this was the last chance of the game and Portsmouth picked up a thouroughly deserved 3pts..

Wigan 0 - 1 Portmouth
Gomez 89 (pen)

MOTM

Burdisso - kept Wigans defense tight and Gomez pretty quiet

Cazorla - tried his best and made a few opportunities for Portsmouth
