Can't see your point at all Wilshere.

It's an emblem to remember, of respect. It's not political or anything like that.

Why should they not be allowed to wear it?

Imposing on who? That doesn't make any sense. England aren't asking for Spain to wear it.

Who would disagree with it?

I wouldn't disagree with any country remembering those that have lost their lives in a war against a racist regime.

While I know not it's not just WWII, and includes other wars. But still.

bit of an issue with poppies in glasgow...

they get banned but england are known for trouble making and stiring also the leader of fifa hates england...

Nigeria get banned because they can england have done nothing they can get banned for but it doesnt mean the people who run fifa dont like them

I really don't understand why people think FIFA have a personal hate over England though lol. They'd have said the same thing to any other country, the world cup wasn't won because of corruption and bribes not England being disliked.

People just seem to use it as an excuse

Fan

I can see the point of those in the Green brigrade that support the white poppy. They totally went about it the wrong way though. But our troops fight for Britain so that's who I'm remembering, as I don't have ties to any other country.

A good portion of Old Farm fans disgust me mate, they are mindless and pathetic...what Smeltic did was diplorable

LSTD - I'm Scottish and I think it's ridiculous that Qatar and Russia won the chance to host the World Cup.

Everyone knows the Russians are corrupt. There was obvious corruption in Fifa as well. And Qatar have that much money they are trying to create fake clouds to make it cooler for the world cup. Why wouldn't they throw money at people to ensure they host the World Cup.

Exactly that's what I'm saying it's not England being disliked its others being corrupt and taking bribes

Poppies are a symbol of war = war is a political problem = poppies is a political emblem

if england feel so strongly about it, then put poppies as the background pic on scoreboards, make fans hold cards up with poppies as the pic or put a big poppy coloured on the pitch

do we have to wear poppies to remember the war. black armbands are just as good

Poppies are a symbol of war = war is a political problem = poppies is a political emblem

-------------------------------------

A political emblem What is the message? It's to remember those that have died fighting for the British forces. What is political about the day?

What's the political meaning behind the poppie? Is it left wing, right wing what?

Absolute nonsense you're spouting Wilshere.

25th of April is my day to remember those who died so im not bothered...

but why not where the poppies

posted on 8/11/11

respect to people who have died in wars. correct and just, but still political.

if this is allowed then it would be more difficult to ban things that are maybe not so clearly right and fair. what if the germany had a edelweiß to remember the german men who died in ww2?

It would clearly be distasteful to have such a thing. but on one what ground could fifa stop them?

the poppy and everything it stands for is great but it has no place in international football.

im using the same comment by someone else on another article but i agree with it

How is it political? It's not at all.

Remembering those who have died in past wars is not policital.

If the Germans had an emblem to remember those that had died in all their wars, I wouldn't have a problem with it. As far as I am aware they don't, probably for good reaosn.

If they had an emblem to remember those that died in that particular war, obviously then that would be political.

Although not everyone that fought for Germany would of shared the same racist views as those that were leading the country. Or any particular war it would generally be political. But this emblem remembers everyone British that has passed.

so does that mean you dont support all the outher sports with poppys or the PL shirts auctioned of with poppys on them

I think I found the article you are talking about, and this comment sums it up perfectly for me:

"Governments are political. The soldiers, volunteers, and victims who die in wars due to their governments decision(s) are not.

By that rationalle the poppy cannot, and never will be a political symbol."
