A London paper, that’s about it.
It’s a disgrace from that lot from Sutton
Churchill was a Millwall fan. He had it coming
I doubt they know who Winston Churchill or Abraham Lincoln (whose was also defaced per the article) were
Surprised. The kind of overweight, Brexit voting skin heads that pathetically use their pent up misguided aggression to stand and defend that statue are normally Chelsea fans. Or Millwall. Let’s get this right, they’re not there to defend the memory of a figurehead that represented war time sacrifices. They were there cos they quite fancy “havin’ a tear up”. Those that defend it and those that attack are just as bad in my opinion. I hate people that pizz all over war memorials but those that surround the Churchill statue, for me, represent something far more chilling. There’s patriotism. Then there’s nationalism.
Anyway, Churchill happened to be a very good war time leader but I wouldn’t run away with the idea that he was loved at the time. He was a staunch Tory. The working class and the unions hated the guy. They initially refused to lower their cranes to half mast when his body passed the Thames. It’s ironic that these Chelsea fans, likely working class themselves, only know what he represented at wartime, not his politics. He was every bit as divisive as Thatcher.
Sorry, I’ve completely digressed. I just find the protection of that statue to be laced with anti-immigrant or racist sentiment which is a crazy irony given that if war taught us anything it’s that division creates conflict. That statue is for everyone. Not the English slob picking up his job seekers allowance every week.
Regarding the main article, I just reckon it’s a bunch of kids that don’t know better. We’re now hitting the first generation that haven’t had one to one contact with someone that went to war, like my Grandad. Kids now don’t have first hand feedback on the war so it’s just something that happened in a book once. It’s a shame and it probably explains why that statue has been defaced. It doesn’t mean much to a kid in his teens.
“ The Police, Crime, Sentencing and Courts Bill, which is currently going through Parliament, will pave the way for anyone who vandalises a statue to receive up to 10 years in prison”.
Insane.

Well yes, this is Tory Britain where we care more about statues and flags than say victims of rape.
But that’s for another thread.

Because rape can be up to life, whereas this is up to 10 years. But you knew that.

Average sentence is about 7 years (if it even gets to court)
Winston said some racist things. But said them in the 30s to 50s when practically every bloke was a racist or sexist
Just a handy flat surface to spray a message on, nothing to do with the thing perched on top.
