failure if dont reach final more like
Have u seen England's record in tournaments?? Tbh I'd settle for a fkn win in the group stage, that's success for me with England
In attack we are (on paper) good enough to win it. Some decent players in other positions, mainly the full-backs, but weaknesses in central defence and central midfield will cost us, as they did in 2018.
I haven't had a look at the draw beyond the groups (route to the finals etc) but I'd be hoping for the semis.

The you’ll be pleased to know if we win our group we’ll play France, Portugal or Germany in the last 16.
Semis? Failure not winning a competition you enter.
A country with an elite football league should not be aiming for just the semis, they should be looking to win. Failing since 1966 is a shocking and serious indictment.

Clockwork
The level of the domestic league isn’t that relevant to the chances of the national team, and their realistic aims. France, Portugal and Belgium are good examples of that.
All three are as good, if not better, than Italy, Germany, Spain and England, despite inferior leagues.
These blanket rounds to target are a bit pointless really. The aim should be to win, but context around any failure to meet that expectation is important.
Saying ‘semis or failure’ when you could narrowly be knocked out by the world champions - and the potential winners of the tournament - is daft and arrogant.
But it’s the same thing whenever England get a few quality players in the squad. Never any respect for our international opponents, that have just as much talent.
Spain, Germany, Italy, France, Portugal all know how to win tournaments, play the occasion and con the refs, England will need to master the darks themselves if they want to win it.

Steffan Kunt1z knocked England by slotting home the winning pen in the most Germanic of fashions and the caanting celebrations afterwards to add salt to wound!

We got to the semis in 1968 as well. But that was before they expanded the tournament.

had they not invented PK shoot-outs in 1968?
1rd one was the 1976 finale with Checks beating Germany with a Panenka by some Check dude.
And needed a replay to beat Yugoslavia in the final.
Praise the lord for penalty shootouts.

Nope. That was Andreas Moller.
Depends on context.
People made out the last tournament was great because England got to the semis. They played 3 decent opposition, Belgium x 2 and Croatia and lost all 3 games.
Semis are enough for any team at a major tournament if they have looked good doing it. Major tournaments are difficult to predict so no team should be going in thinking victory is the only success.
