Somebody's gotta eat the cucumber sandwiches!
I'm OK with cucumber sandwiches but I think they would stick in my throat at the moment.
Drinks break. Give the England team Flaming Sambuccas and get them fired up. So far they have killed the opportumity to win this match despite the sporting opportunity they were given by NZ. All credit to NZ, shame on England.
agreed-thought England would give it a go
Why do you expect an inexperienced batting lineup to just casually score at almost 4 an over on a day 4 pitch against one of the best teams on the world?

you at at home, on a nice sunny day with a chance to make history-by all means close shop up if wickets go cheaply
England are probably the only one of the top cricketing countries that would not have given it a go. In the reverse situation NZ would have gone for it, as would Australia, South Africa. India and Pakistan. Maybe that is why their fans are more supportive and enthusiastic.
I totally agree, very negative from England. Quite pathetic really.
However, I also think other nations are equally as negative. I’ve seen many teams in recent years go for the safe draw instead of the win.
Most sports nowadays are full of wimps, that’s why old grandpas are still dominating.
Williamson threw down the gauntlet; Root picked it up and wiped his arrse with it. Crowd must be pleased.
It appeared that the captain had no faith in the team to chase a total that was within their capability. Maybe he had Googled run chases and got scared. Root is a good batsman but there are other players who could do role of Capta
To not even give it a go was pathetic but alot of test playing teams would have done the same
Love test cricket but this is not a good advert
Had bairstow and Buttler been playing I think england would have gone did it... Infact don’t think NZ would have declared at 273 ahead. Never a chance with current line up
Surprised by this reaction tbh - I fully expected England to collapse and lose . Was pretty relieved we got a draw.
Now the decision to make no attempt to win the first test looks even worse.

Not to me. To me it justifies my belief that we would have lost that match as well.
I’d rather lose 2-0 trying to win than lose 1-0 trying not to lose.
